Definisco il mio obiettivo e lo scrivo. Si, lo scrivo. Averlo in testa non è sufficiente, deve essere messo nero su bianco. Per me, funziona anche in un documento Word o Excel, ma credo che sia una cosa personale. Se lo trovate strano, io consiglierei di optare un un bel quadernino. Il quadernino del nostro obiettivo;

Immagino quale sarà il percorso per raggiungere il mio obiettivo. Per quanto possa essere lontano o vicino nel tempo, facile o difficile da raggiungere, provo a farmi una idea di come ci arriverò. Dovrò coinvolgere qualcuno? Farò tutto da solo? Dovrò investire qualcosa? Mi servono dei permessi? Quanto tempo richiederà la preparazione? Di fatto mi immergo in una grande sessione di brainstorming, con scenari multipli nel caso qualcosa vada bene o vada male. Alla fine, scrivo la sequenza delle fasi del mio viaggio.

Dettaglio le fasi. Entro più in profondità e aggiungo dettagli per ogni fase. Quanto tempo richiede, se ci sono dei costi, chi coinvolge. Annoto tutto ciò che mi viene in mente. L'idea è di avere pronto un piccolo manuale di quello che sarà il mio viaggio verso la meta, con cui orientarmi e sapere se mi sto muovendo secondo le mie aspettative oppure no.

Attuo il piano. L'avventura vera e propria. Senza andare allo sbaraglio, ma seguendo una strategia. Potrebbe rivelarsi sbagliata, magari ci sarà da dover correggere il tiro, anzi, sicuramente sarà così perché gli imprevisti capitano sempre, ma so di essermi dato la migliore possibilità di riuscirci. Inoltre, avere un piano, mi aiuterà a tenere duro nelle fasi di sconforto in cui magari sarò tentato di mollare. Oppure potrebbe essere lo strumento che dati alla mano mi permetterà di riconoscere che non ne vale più la pena e sto seriamente buttando via il mio tempo.

Infine, il resoconto. Faccio un confronto tra il mio piano di partenza e quello che è stato l'effettivo percorso, perché sicuramente qualcosa sarà andato diversamente e studiare e capire le divergenze mi permetterà di imparare e saperle applicare a priori in futuro. Credo che siano in pochi a farlo, ma per me è come se ci perdessimo un piccolo tesoro di informazioni preziose. Consiglierei a tutti di spenderci un po' di tempo e di archiviare queste considerazioni postume. Torneranno sicuramente utili.

I imagine what the path to my goal will be. However far or near in time, easy or difficult to reach, I try to get an idea of how I will get there. Will I have to involve someone? Will I do everything myself? Will I have to invest something? Will I need permits? How long will the preparation take? I actually immerse myself in a big brainstorming session, with multiple scenarios in case something goes right or wrong. At the end, I write down the sequence of steps in my journey.

I detail the phases. I go deeper and add details for each phase. How long it takes, if there are any costs, who it involves. I write down everything that comes to mind. The idea is to have ready a small manual of what my journey to the destination will be, with which to orient myself and know whether I am moving according to my expectations or not.

I implement the plan. The actual adventure. Without going off half-cocked, but following a strategy. It may turn out to be wrong, there may be a need to correct the course, indeed, there certainly will be because the unexpected always happens, but I know I have given myself the best chance of succeeding. Besides, having a plan will help me to hold on in times of discouragement when I may be tempted to give up. Or it could be the tool that will allow me to recognise that it is no longer worth it and I am seriously wasting my time.

Finally, the report. I make a comparison between my starting plan and what the actual journey was, because surely something will have gone differently and studying and understanding the differences will allow me to learn and be able to apply them beforehand in the future. I think very few people do this, but for me it is like missing out on a small treasure trove of valuable information. I would advise everyone to spend some time on it and archive these posthumous considerations. They will certainly come in handy.
