My Actifit Report Card: January 11 2026

No i dziwi mnie taka technika. A dodanie ściółki organicznej tylko zwiększyło by powierzchnię odparowania.

I only have this one photo today, and I took it because I was wondering why these shrubs are planted like this. I have a bit of an interest in permaculture and in combating desertification (as a hobby), and this technique really surprised me.
I even ended up arguing with ChatGPT, which claims that in Egypt this is exactly how it should be done: using drip irrigation only for specific plants, because due to the very low water-holding capacity of the soil, any water applied elsewhere would evaporate anyway. According to that view, adding organic mulch would only increase the evaporation surface. On top of that, there are issues related to root rot.
That’s why the soil is either left bare like this or covered with inorganic mulches (for example, light-coloured gravel). The hotel we’re staying at also uses greywater for irrigation, which gives me very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I’m a supporter of this idea — at my family home we once watered plants (mainly the lawn and flowers) with water from a septic tank. It feels environmentally friendly. Here, however, you know… I have serious sanitary concerns. Children touch everything, you can’t constantly monitor hand washing, etc. Even if we avoid “Pharaoh’s curse”, contact still has negative health implications
