I am not sure if many have observed this phenomenon, the culture of counter-offering an employee by building a bridge to nowhere.

It must have taken an employee a considerable time of consideration to arrive at a decision to resign, especially so for a long serving employee. One who has been with an organization for more than 5 years, it is not second nature for them to want to quit an organization, having to update resume, job hunt and to go for interview and lastly start as a freshman elsewhere.

They usually quit culture or toxic people, less likely due to the job itself and usually such organization would offer talks to the employee with how great the company has become, what great future the company has to hold and the employee would be foolish to move on when they try to establish a bridge of communication

But all these usually would not reignite any further passion in a leaving employee, therefore such walk on the bridge would lead to nowhere. It is truly building a bridge to nowhere.

Employee retention is a daily task, not when they finally decided to submit their letter of resignation.
