Man at the Garden

To affirm or claim one's success is easy but to actually deserve what you're getting isn't something everyone can claim they do.
Most times we simply give the respects to something vague like luck and divine placement and although those are valid reasons for success too, one person we should give respect to is ourselves.

Before having my bedtime shower, something moved me to play Kendrick's GNX album and after a while, the song "Man at the Garden." started playing.
It's a song I've well known to be powerful, on the level of Reincarnated, Gloria and the heart part 6, and it's a song I've listened to multiple times.
Yet today is the first day I'm actually listened to it. Listening and truly understanding what it's about.

In this song, with the title referencing the biblical "garden" (heaven) Kendrick plays the role of a man listing his actions and roles, things he did to deserve him entrance into the garden.
In another way, the song is a memento of his accolades and struggles. He deserves everything he gets because of the sacrifices he's made and the morals he's upheld.

I'm about to clock a new year, a year older, a year wiser and hopefully maybe happier.
Yet, I've found out that this new year is coming with its troubles, finishing school, getting a job and earning money.
Starting up my business plans and a few other things.
My country isn't the best for a starry eyed youth with big dreams, thankfully the stars in my eyes were plucked since I was 7 and now turning 21, I can say my dreams are becoming bigger and with more form.
I guess I'm just waiting for a time when the results come out.

The kind of results that would make some question their sources.
So in a way, this song is like an affirmation and reflection.
It makes me ask myself questions..
What have I done to actually deserve my successes?
Do I deserve them? Or am I just lucky...

An interesting song...I like especially the last chord. Kind of a commentary on the whole song.

Who deserves anything? And what does that have to do with what we get in life? I don't see a consistent relationship between good fortune and good behavior. If you have good fortune, then you are fortunate. That's it. :)

Ahhh, indeed.

But good fortune has its limits I think...

And sometimes it does feel better if the results you get are something you worked for and planned for instead of something your fortune and luck plucked for you..
