🎬 2026 Movie Review #14 | Roofman (2025)

2025 Movies Marathon
I have grown a bit of a tradition in January to watch all the 'Youtuber Top 10 Films Of The Year' videos to catch up with everything that was potentially good in the previous year. I'm still catching up on making some reviews on movies that I watched earlier in the year with I think 3 more to go before I'm moving on to newer or older movies.

Based on Real Events
The movie started out stating that it was based on a real person and events that actually took place which instantly intrigued me. So I quickly asked Chat GPT about Jeffrey Manchester and how much the movie actually resembles the events which said that the time that he managed to hide inside the Toys "R" Us was exagerrated in the movie but otherwise it quite accurately presents the facts.

Roofman (7.5/10)
The idea of the movie is that a non-violent guy finds a way to rob Mcdonalds fast food restaurants by getting in overnight trough the roof to lock the staff inside of the large fridge in the morning when they come in while stealing the funds from the day before. Eventually he gets caught and goes to prison for a long time as he carried a gun even though he never did anyone any harm and even gave his own jacket to keep some of the employees he robbed warm.
He manages to escape the prison and finds a Toys "R" Us Store where he manages to hide for many months in a way that is kind of believable. He does also get somewhat of a social life which kind of left me wondering how nobody recognised him but I just took it for what it was. He falls in love and when the time comes when he can move on getting a new id from a friend who works for the cops he needs to make a choice.
This one very much reminded me of the movie Hit Man which had a very similar setup of being based on true events with a not too serious and fun feel to it. I really enjoyed that one and Roofman arguably was even better. I really likes the story from how exactly he robbed the Mcdonalds restaurants, to the way he escaped from prison and how he managed to stay undetected in the Toy Store. The cast was also great and the general feel of this movie was just fun.
Roofman Trailer
Conclusion
Similar to what I read in multiple reviews, I also was just positively surprised about this movie and really enjoyed watching it from start to finish even though the trailer itselt didn't sell me on it when I watched it way back. The fact that it's based on real event makes it also a lot better. Hit Man which I watched last year felt really similar in many differnt ways. I liked Roofman just a tiny bit better and I'm willing to give it a solid 7.5/10
