This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. 2025 Movies Marathon

I have grown a bit of a tradition in January to watch all the 'Youtuber Top 10 Films Of The Year' videos to catch up with everything that was potentially good in the previous year. I'm still catching up on making some reviews on movies that I watched Late January and in February but I'm almost done with it. I have taken somewhat of a break from watching movies as I have some issues with a tune in my ear which especially when watching tv is super annoying.

I tend to be someone who can get super intrigued by certain things and just fully get obsessed for a shorter or longer time. This is kind of what happened when I saw a Youtube short pass by of someone trying to speed-run a small indie game which is called Exit 8. It was released in 2023 on steam with positive ratings. When I looked it up, I saw that they also made a movie from it which was released in 2025 with a 6.4/10 rating on IMDB and a lenght of just over 90 minutes. So I looked it up and ended up watching it the same evening just to see what was up with it without any major expectations.

Exit 8 (6.5/10)

Basically the concept of the game is pretty simple as it's a creative variant of the 'spot the difference' game. You are a guy who somehow gets trapped in a subway hall that goes in a loop. Each time you go trough the hallway when you spot an anomaly, you need to go back to get to the next exit number. If you make the correct choice, you work your way up each time to the next level and when reaching level 8 you are able to escape.

The movie kind of starts out in first person as an hommage to the video game but quickly just goes to normal film mode. I really love the general look of it and was mainly just curious what they will come up with when it came down to the anomalies and they managed to kind of keep it interesting for 90 Minutes. At the same time, it's not that any of it or the story blew me away. It's kind of a Horror movie but more a psychological horror with a couple scenes that also try to make it scary which doesn't fully work.

Basically, this is one of those b-movies where if the concept intrigues you, it's better to just watch a 15-minute recap of the movie on YouTube (See Below) instead of wasting 90 minutes on it.

Conclusion
I don't regret watching this as I knew in advance that the likelyhood of this being great was low, at the same time I enjoyed the day where Exit 8 fully captured my intrigue so it will kind of stick with me. Overall a 6.5/10 on a movie where I woud say to myself, just watch the 15 Minute Recap instead of watching the whole movie.

I really liked this movie—the way everything comes together in the end and the suspense it builds throughout

It seems today's YouTubers don't have as good taste in horror movies as one might expect, huh? 🥴

Still, everything you mention about this film and its game is interesting.

Good post.

I liked this movie, especially because it breaks away from the traditional plot. Since I'm not familiar with the game—even though I knew the movie was based on it—I enjoyed it without knowing what to expect. It really is nerve-wracking. Pure psychological horror.

If you enjoyed Exist 8, I can recommend you to watch Cube from 1997 if you have not seen that one yet. That along with the 2 sequals always stuck to me and it has somewhat of a cult status. In many ways it can be compared to Exit 8
