📺 Death Note Review (2006-2007) | The Perfect Anime Entry Series!

My Anime History

Choosing My First Anime Series
One of the advantages of being active on Hive is that you have communities where specific content can be found easily and one of them is The Anime Realm (@theanimerealm) which I subsribed to and checked / curated regularly trying to find a good recommendation as first Anime Series to watch.
The post that sold me on what to watch first came from @zero-not who from the looks of it by now gave up on hive unfortunately.
It included Death Note as the first recommendation and his description instantly sold me as something that I might really enjoy.
So I managed to download the English Spoken Version and eventually started watching it last week (It's also available on Netflix).
Death Note (2006-2007) 8.9/10
Apparently this is a series from 2006 which has a total of 37 Episodes of 23 Minutes each which adds up to a quite lenghty runtime of 12 Hours when skipping the intro and outro of each episode. I did watch it on my laptop oftentimes in bed before going to sleep which anime perfectly suits.
Plot Summary (Spoiler Free):

It only really took me 2 episodes to get totally hooked as this series has everything that I tend to enjoy as a more rational thinker. The main premise of the show where there is a Death Note with all kinds of different rules attached to it just stayed interesting for the entire 37 episodes with a moral question who you actually want to root for.
I seriously wondered at the start how they could keep it interesting and fresh for the entire 12-Hour Runtime but they actually managed to do this often keeping me wondering and surprised by the next direction that was taken. The story takes place over multiple years and there are new characters and plotines introduced regularly. All the episodes I would say were good and retained a constant high level (maybe aside from a couple in the middle) and the ending was also ok and came at the right time as it also didn't need to drag on for much longer.
What I loved About Death Note
I kind of have a things for media that both speaks to the kid in me and the adult (Like Doctor Who / Studio Ghibli) and Death note perfectly did that. The story was written so well and smart that it kept me guessing what the 2 main characters were thinking and how they were going to get themselves out of tricky situations which always was done in a very clever way. There are also no subjects like depression, addiction, adultery, sexn difficult relationships, trauma,.. which kept it fun an enjoyable to watch. It's a finished story so I'm now able to fully move on after it controlled my life for about half a week as I had an urge to binge watch at times. I also just love logic and this series perfectly scratched that itch. So overall, for me it was a perfect entry as a first anime series to watch even though the bar now is set quite high.
Conclusion
If you want to start watching Anime and are someone who loves logic and somewhere has an inner kid in you, Death Note probaly will be the perfect Anime to watch if you plan to start. I really really enjoyed my watchtime a lot and was kind of blown away by it and the level it kept all 37 episodes. By the end though it was really time for things to get wrapped up also because I just wanted to move on with my life. I rate this one a very Solid 8.9/10 and give a big thanks to @zero-not and the Anime Real Community for the recommendation. This was the first of probably many Anime Series that I will be watching in the coming years!

God, I love Death Note, I've lost count of how many times I've seen it, it's really good, although I honestly didn't like the introduction of Neath and the other orphan hahaha.
Yeah I get what you mean with the introduction of those characters later in the series. Still it wasn't to the point that it bothered me though. Not sure also that I will ever watch it again as it's quite the time commitment and I'm happy to let it live in my head as a near perfect memory.

how interesting, good post!
This is one of the first anime I've seen and I really liked it, especially because of the mystery and the way they develop their characters. I would say it's a classic for anyone who wants to get started in the world of anime.
Good review.
Thanks, I really enjoyed watching it and am looking forward to picking a 2nd Anime Series to watch even though I have not made up my mind yet. My main fear is that the bar now is just set really high after having experienced Death Note.
