This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. January Movie Marathon Month

I have grown a bit of a tradition in January to watch all the 'Youtuber Top 10 Films Of The Year' videos to catch up with everything that was potentially good in the previous year. I have been procrastinating a bit to make reviews on the movies I watched but I plan to kick things in gear again to catch up.

The Life Of Chuck is one of those movies that has been on my Watchlist for a while as I got it recommended by a friend who enjoyed it. During my January Youtube top 2025 Movies list watching, it also was mentioned once as it's actually a late 2024 movie which sparked my attention again. I pretty much avoided all spoilers not watching the trailer or really knowing what it would be about aside from assuming it was going to be some life story given the title. I also knew that Tom Hiddleston played the main role. The movie is based on a story from Stephen King and is directed by Mike Flanagan who previously made some B-Horror movies, but also Doctor Sleep which I haven't watched yet but now is on my list. Overall, I just highly enjoyed this movie from start to finish and am really glad that I watched it.

The Life Of Chuck (8.3/10)

The movie starts off a bit confusing following a teacher during a rather weird end-of-the-world scenario which is called Act 3: “Thanks, Chuck” and I quickly feared that it was going to be another gimmick movie where things are a bit out of order. Luckily, the structuring of the movie was there for a good reason and it really worked as it kept me guessing and provided some surprises along with some explainations along the way.

There is no sign of Chuck played by Tom Hiddleston in the first act which takes quite long aside from the advertising billboards which are spread around town which say "Charles Krantz 39 Great Years! Thanks Chuck!" while nobody in the world seems to know who this guy is. This sets up an interesting mini mystery of what is going on which quickly becomes clear.

This 3rd act is followed by a 2nd and a 1st which always goes back in time and Chuck is actually introduced. This is done during an impressive but a bit too long street music / drumming dance scene in what feels like a 'The Truman Show' environment setting which worked quite well.

The last act goes back to the Childhood of Chuck and it brings everything together in a very good way. I'm deliberately not saying anything about the actual story as it's just best to be discovered.

Things I Loved About This Movie!
There are so many aspects that I really enjoyed about this movie just to say a few...

  • It's Uniqueness: If anything, this movie to me felt like it's something that has not been done before which made it feel unique and that is something rare to come by these days especially when it's in the positive sense and it just works.

  • The Science Angle: This movie has somewhat of a science angle to it and includes the cosmic year calendar by Carl Sagan early on which was a part I really enjoyed.

  • It Keeps You Guessing: This movie kept me guessing from the start where there was the end of the universe scenario to 'a room that can't be entered' and generally how things were going to be connected and it all came together in the end.

  • Coming-of-age Story: In a way it's a bit a coming-of-age story which is a genre that I tend to enjoy.

  • Great Sound, Acting, & Visuals: All 3 of them were just solid from start to finish. 1 just under 2 hours, it was not too long and not too short.

Conclusion
I was really surprised by this movie in a positive way just really enjoying the ride while it stuck for days. It's one of those I actively recommend to people and I for sure will rewatch it with somebody some day. So a solid 8.3/10 for me and highly recommended!
