Comparing Hive with Centralised Social Media Platform

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Togo, TickTok and host of others can be said to have become part of our lives. Good evening friends, it is another week and i am happy to participate in this weeks context.

There are key differences when you compare centralised social media platforms to blockchain based social media like HIVE. For example, interms of ownership and control, centralised social media platforms are owned and control by individuals or private company and that involves having total control of how you use your account, your contents, and your data use. This company can take decisions without consideration or without input from the user.

As centralised social media platforms, they store data on centralised servers owned by them thereby having total control over the platform. But Hive is decentralised and data is stored in a distributed manner across different servers or networks that are connected so that no single person or company can have complete control over the platform and this gives the users more control over their data, content, and cases of account bans are reduced to the minimum.

Secondly, in centralised social media platforms, most people post content for free, while the platform makes money from advertisement and use data. Only influencers or brands with large followers tends to earn. On Hive, any user can earn and receive rewards for posting valuable, original content and by engaging in other people's post. No need for followers or advertisements. People votes and comment on post and rewards are distributed based on the quality and impact of what you share.

Thirdly, In centralised social media platforms, harmful or immoral content can sometimes go viral for profits sake. While Hive encourages free expression, it still maintains community guidelines that promotes positive and responsible engagement. immoral or harmful contents are not allowed. Users are encouraged to contribute thoughtfully and follow rules that keeps the platform safe and respectful,and this creates a healthy environment.

Fourthly, Hive operates on a public blockchain, its transaction, including comment rewarders and voting are transparent. It is quite different from centralised social media platforms because their earnings and transactions are always hidden from users.

Hive is powered by users, not by advertersers or companies. Decisions about the platform development are always made collectively, giving users a real voice. This sense of shared ownership is rarely found on centralised social media platforms.

Hive represents a new generation of social media where users are rewarded for value, protected by transparency, and empowered through delegation. Unlike centralised social media platforms that profits from users activity, Hive gives back to the community, creating a fairer and more meaningful online experience.
