The Illusion of Normalcy: How Environmental Destruction Became Acceptable
Today's topic is about nature and how our nature is being disturbed. This is happening because of us. Nature is something without which humankind can never survive, and we can never imagine our lives without nature. It contributes so much to our daily lives; in a way, it's a part of our lives. We can say it's the heartbeat of our lives, and if it stops beating, we will all cease to exist. The cool morning breeze, the sound of birds in the evening, the rain, the fragrance, and the shade of trees—we get all this from nature, and we think it's all normal.

But these are all very good things and incredibly valuable to us, even though we've seen them since childhood. Things that we get very easily, we don't value. That's why, in today's time, if you're in a city, you'll yearn for these things—for the shade of a tree, especially in a place with scorching sun, like a desert. Ask a person in the desert how important a tree is, because they need it. By the time we realize the importance of these things, it will be too late. That's why I'm saying, don't let nature be destroyed; instead, reconstruct it and protect it from disasters. Because it is the greatest resource of our lives, and life without nature feels like it's not worth living.
First of all, due to deforestation, there are no trees left. Nowadays, the entire forest is empty. There is no place for animals and birds to live, and also for us, because trees give us oxygen. Oxygen is the one thing that keeps us alive. We can never survive without oxygen. And another good thing is that it gives us oxygen and takes in carbon dioxide. But if you only look at this from an exam point of view and focus on academics, it will seem like a normal thing to you. But in real life and practical use, if you see how important trees are, then they're more important than anything else!
We humans, for our selfish needs, have been gradually cutting down trees to make furniture for our homes and for other purposes, and we are not realizing that if we cut down trees, we should also plant new ones in their place. Initially, we had a genuine need to cut down trees in some areas because development was also crucial, as people need to earn a living. But the problem is that we are not planting trees elsewhere to compensate, and that's a bad thing. If you cut down one tree in one place, you should plant at least ten trees in another place to maintain a global balance.

If you are cutting down trees and not planting any, without protecting the trees, it's a very bad thing because if you keep cutting down trees, there will soon be such drastic weather changes that it will affect our human lives. Extreme heat, sudden floods, unexpected rains—all these are major reasons for the imbalance in nature. Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, and coastal areas are slowly being submerged. I have noticed this myself because my village was on the banks of the Ganges, and when I recently visited my village, I saw that the river had encroached upon the area where my house used to be. Therefore, if we don't stop tampering with nature from today, there will come a time when we won't even have a place to live.
So, I earnestly request that you never do anything that harms nature. Pollution is another major reason for nature's suffering. Air pollution has become so severe that we have almost accepted it as normal. In India today, the air quality is so bad that you can't even imagine. If you go outside without a mask, your face will get dirty, your lungs can be damaged, and you can develop diseases like lung cancer. And even then, factories are releasing smoke without any control, and they are dumping chemicals and chemical waste into rivers, which is severely affecting the aquatic species living in those rivers. Water pollution is also in a terrible state. These days, the water in India is so contaminated that you can consider it practically poisonous. If you drink water from a river, it acts like poison in your body.
