Pollution: The Silent Catastrophe We Are Choosing to Ignore

Today's topic is how pollution is becoming a huge problem. We are ignoring it, but a time will come when its dangers will become fully apparent to us. Pollution is something that is very serious and dangerous, and it is gradually increasing. The environment can absorb a certain level of pollution, but if pollution continues beyond that point, the environment will deteriorate significantly. Global warming and the greenhouse effect will occur, and this will gradually cause immense harm. The major sources of pollution are factories, manufacturing plants, and places where vehicles operate.

This factory, where we get our products manufactured, where we get our goods from, do you have any idea how much pollution this factory causes? It pollutes the environment; the pollution goes into the air, and chemicals are released that mix directly into the water. These chemicals are so dangerous that if they get into any ecosystem, they can wipe out all the species there. These chemicals are so incredibly dangerous that even a normal pond, if you were to take a dip in it, your entire body would be filled with chemicals, and you would face so many problems. So, you can imagine that if so much comes out of just one factory, then consider how much pollution is released from all the factories in the world and how many problems that must cause?

We drive these cars, moving from one place to another. We have no idea how much pollution a single car causes. A normal car, over its lifetime, produces so much pollution that you can't even imagine. We happily sit inside the car, driving it, filling it with petrol, and driving it normally. But the petrol in that car didn't just appear out of nowhere; it came from somewhere underground. The regular gasoline we get, the fossil fuel, can't be directly poured into a car. There's a process involved to make it suitable for use in a vehicle. Imagine how much pollution is generated during that process! Then, when we put it in the car and drive, it releases CO2 and leaves a carbon footprint, causing even more pollution. So, how much pollution is generated through this entire step-by-step process It is a limitless process in which pollution keeps increasing continuously.

Let's say someone wants to build a house. To build that house, they use wood to make the walls, the floor, the doors, the window frames, and the cupboards. So much is made from wood, but where does the wood come from? It comes from nature. We go and, in a sense, illegally exploit nature. We cut down trees. Some trees are very valuable, like sandalwood trees. These trees are very rare. They are very expensive, and cutting them down is illegal in India. But nowadays, if you go to any wealthy home, you'll see that they have redwood beds and redwood gates. This shows how flawed their mentality is. It takes 10 to 12 years for a redwood tree to grow. So you can imagine how much time and processing is involved, how much nature is exploited, just to get one tree. We simply go, cut it down, and then leave it. We need to carefully consider how much we are destroying nature even in the process of building a house.

The effects of this pollution are affecting us gradually, but they will also affect our future generations. The damage we are causing today, or the damage we are unaware of, will be paid for by our children and future generations. Climate change is happening, and it's already affecting us today. It feels warm in the winter, and it rains during the summer. Sometimes it even gets cold during the rainy season. Global warming is causing glaciers to melt. When glaciers melt, what happens? Sea levels rise, which can lead to tsunamis and earthquakes. Entire houses in coastal areas can be submerged. And this continuous noise increases our stress levels. It disrupts our sleep, increases anxiety, and causes irritation. Think about how many problems this creates. Our generation is already experiencing all of this. Now imagine how much more the coming generations will have to face. We're developing in all areas, especially technology, but we're completely neglecting nature.
