The strength of men

Greetings!

The saying that men don't cry has been in existence for a while now. I could remember back then in our secondary school days when we always showed that we were strong and would not cry as boys even when being beaten by our teachers.

That's our spirit back then as it used to be somehow if we started crying as boys in the class back then, I could also remember the ladies among us mocking those guys that cry when being beaten by the teacher.

There's even a particular day that I asked myself as to why we boys will refuse to cry when being beaten by our teacher and one thing I got to know was that as men, there's this thing in us called ego that always makes us see ourselves as supreme over our girls counterparts.

Aside from this, when men cry, it's like the leader of a battle has fallen and that's why we always try to be strong so as to make others strong.

Now, back to the topic of the prompt which is all about “big boys don't cry.” To me, it's better that we men should not be seen crying in public as this would affect the emotions of others among us, both the children and the women and this is because they see us as their refuge and also their dependant who they can depend on whenever there's trouble.

So, seeing men crying can make things worse for them emotionally as they only
rely on men's strength to survive emotionally.

Although, it's not as if men too don't cry, then cry, but maybe in their private place but theirs can be compared to their women counterparts who are always emotional about everything.

I could remember when I lost my mum, then everyone was crying including my younger and elder sisters as I was the only male in the family of five, but summoned courage and decided not to cry even though, I was not happy with the circumstances that led to my mum's death, but even at that, I stayed strong and refused to be overwhelmed by the happenings of the sad events around me.

This decision of mine later helped my four sisters to remain strong as they too decided to stay strong and accept their fates. Had it been I have also cried out my eyes, nothing would have changed as we would only be crying without any solution to what had happened to us.

So, a man should not be emotionally carried away no matter the situation, Instead he should summon courage and let the weaker vessels tap from his strength to be stabilized.

However, if emotion should set in finally, he should look for a way to avoid it publicly as this may affect those who rely on his courage.

This is my entry to week 203, episodes 02 of the weekly Featured contest in the Hive Learners community.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, a man should not be carried away emotionally because they need to stand up strong for the weaker ones around. Also, I would say the weaker ones should be a source of encouragement for the man, especially when he’s down with challenges and felt like crying. Yes, crying isn’t a bad thing; it doesn’t mean one is weak; it only becomes so when you keep crying without any solution or getting up.
