The Power Of Positive Association

There was this boy I knew where I lived some years back. When he entered secondary school, his performance was not up to par. He was below average. Then after a while of trying to encourage him, his parents took a look at his friends and discovered that they were people who did not take their studies seriously and often skipped classes. So they advised him to change friends. He then joined a study group where he learnt focus and discipline. In fact, this was a turning point in his life. His academics picked up, and he went above average. The change in his association was what changed his performance. This goes to show that positive association can bring about positive changes in someone's life.

There is a particular truth that has stood the test of time, and that is; whether you believe it or not, the people you surround yourself with will ultimately shape your thoughts, attitude, character, actions, and destiny. In fact, you will eventually be modelled after the people you stay with. This may not be an automatic process, but it will definitely happen. This is why you have to stay with people who create positive impacts in your life. The truth is that positive association is not only helpful, but it is also a powerful force that can positively affect the quality of our lives. Having people who will motivate and inspire you towards greatness is a blessing on its own.

Humans are naturally influenced by their immediate environment. This is why if you constantly spend time with people who are disciplined, focused, and ambitious, you will see yourself exhibiting these traits because you have observed them from the people around you. In the same way, if you stay with people who live a careless life, who are negatively inclined, and who are not pushful towards anything, it will not be long and you will start to exhibit these qualities too. You should know that energy can be transferable. Similarly, attitude can also be contagious. A lot of the lifestyle that people create were from what they observed from others.

There may come to a point in your life when it looks like you are going through some hardness and rough times. At this point, having positive association will make the burden lighter because they will be there to encourage you, guide you, give you the moral support that you need, and help remind you of your strength, purpose, and potentials. There is no feeling as lonely as going through difficult times with the wrong people. But when you have the right people around you, you will discover that the journey will be easier. The right people are like the feathers you will need if you want to fly higher. They are like the ladder which you need to climb to the next phase of your life.

One of the things you also gain from positive association is accountability. When you stay with people who are serious-minded, you will not settle for mediocrity. This is because your circle will expect growth from you, and you would want to live up to expectation. More so, they will be interested in your growth, they will also ask you about your goals, and may give assistance where they can. They also have a way of inspiring you to remain consistent. The truth is that accountability creates discipline, which is a vital requirement if you want to achieve success.

Positive association also provides opportunities that you may never have if you stay alone. Having the right people can create connections, introduce you to certain knowledge, experiences, and some necessary network that you may not get alone. Having the right people around you can also expose you to new strategies and new ideas that will make you achieve success better. It is worthy to note that growth is easier through good relationships.

But you need to understand that in order to build a good and positive association, you need intentionality. Everyone cannot possibly be your associate or your friend. You have to intentionally select who aligns with your goals. More so, you have to become the kind of company that you need. Always seek people who are positive addition to you.
