Succeeding In Your Resolutions
A lot of people have made new year resolutions with excitement and enthusiasm. For some, it is the norm to make resolutions every new year, and the pattern has continued for years. But the question is, how well do you keep your resolutions? Some people even begin to fall short of their just a few days or weeks into the year, and then hoping for the next year to make another resolution. The truth is that if you do not know why some people fail at the new year resolution, you may not know the way around it. Here, we shall take a look at why some people fail at resolutions, and the way forward. This will help you to make better decisions and choices in the course of the year.

One of the major reasons why people fail in their resolutions is lack of clarity. Resolutions are not about ambiguity but about specifics. Imagine someone having a vague resolution of "I want to be better." It is true that their intentions are pure, but they lack clarity. How do you even measure or quantify "being better?" You should set something that is measurable and clear. For example, instead of saying "I will take my studies seriously," you can say "I will read 3 books for every week." This will give you a specific direction, a plan, and a roadmap to follow to achieve your dream. It is the clarity in your resolution that will turn mere desires into direction. So to succeed at a resolution, make it clear, understandable, and measurable."
Another reason why some people fail at the resolution is because of over-ambition. At the start of the year, your enthusiasm will be so high, but it is not a reason to set unrealistic and illogical goals. How can you resolve within yourself that you will be saving 100k in a month for every month of the year, but your salary is less than 100k in a month? Where will you hope to get the balance from? Or maybe resolving that you can read 10 books in a day. Is it even possible? This can easily lead to discouragement and you may end up not doing any at all. This is why you need to be logical and sensible in your resolution and know what you are capable of. You can even start small, then you can step it up in due course. In that way, you will be able to keep to the promises you made to yourself without cracking under the undue pressure from unrealistic goal.

The next reason why people fail on their resolutions that we will look at is lack of discipline. You may be motivated to make the resolution, but motivation is actually temporary. What sustains you through the journey is discipline. You should not depend on just your feelings towards the resolutions, but you have to back it up with determination and discipline. There are times that you may not feel like it, or your willpower may be trying to betray you, but when you learn to stand on the promises you made to yourself, you will pull through. It is the power of discipline that actually transforms the seasonal resolutions into daily habits, in order to make you who you want to be.
Now someone may ask what happens if they fail on their resolutions. Well, you are not immune to errors, and they can happen. But when you see yourself falling short, you should quickly pick yourself up and set the path straight. You do not have to wait until the next year to fix another resolution, just forgive yourself for your past errors, and then continue from where you stopped. Also try to connect to your resolutions on a very deep level. When your goal is tied to your value, you will do all it takes to keep to it. Also build good friends and company that will help you to keep to your goals, not the people that will discourage you from going after your goals. Anyone who takes you away from your resolutions is not supposed to be among your circle. So while making friends this year, you have to be intentional about it, and know that your future depends on the choices you make now.
