Stand Up For What Is Right. Justice Is Everyone's Responsibility

One of the demands of humanity is to do what is right even when you are not benefiting directly from it at the moment, and even when no one is watching. It is the justice you stand for today that will help secure your tomorrow. When you are silence in the face of injustice, it can be taken for complicity. Tomorrow, the same injustice that you neglected yesterday may catch up with you and there will be no one willing to lend you a voice. You have a duty to stand by the side of the truth and uphold what is right. This is part of what build a great community and great nation by extention.

A just society does not exist by accident. Rather it is built and is maintaining by the people who are willing and ready to stand by what is right even if the situation does not affect them directly. Just to let you know; justice is not reserved for judges, law enforcement agencies, or leaders. But it is the responsibility of everyone within the society. The society will grow and develop when the ordinary citizens will defend the truth, fairness, and equity, at all times even when it does not affect them directly. This will make everyone to live in peace and unity with each other.

Some people tend to believe that they should only seek for justice or get involved when they are personally affected by injustice. They feel that if a problem within the society does not concern them directly, that it will be better for them to remain silent and stay away from trouble. But what they fail to understand is that it is this kind of mindset that allows injustice to grow and thrive. If you ignore a wrongdoing because you are not a victim of it, what you are simply saying is that the wrong should continue. And this will make those who commit the injustice to become more confident in doing what is not right. Understand that silence in the face of evil is a subtle support for injustice.

Standing for justice means that you have refused to ignore unfair treatment, oppression, discrimination, or abuse anytime you see it happening. Even some very simple act like speaking up when you see that someone is being treated unfairly can make a significant impact in not just their life but in the society. You will agree with me that when people know that other people will defend what is right, it will discourage them from doing what is wrong. It will also make them to promote fairness. When you stand for fairness, it will also encourage others to do the same. And before you know it, justice will prevail.

I once read a story, maybe fictional, of a community that taught me a very vital lesson about standing up for justice. In the community, a certain day came when one outside clan rose up and started attacking a clan within the community because of something that was obviously a result of assumptions. The attacked tribe came to another tribe for help and to speak up against the injustice, but they were unwilling to help them because it does not affect them directly. The were subdued and they were silenced. This same thing also happened to the three other clans in the community, remaining just one. Yet the remaining one clan did not raise a finger even though they posses some influence within the society. At last, they came for that remaining clan, but there was no one to speak for them, and they also became a victim of the injustice they allowed. If they had spoken up when the injustice started, they would stopped the problem from even starting in the first place.

The injustice you do not speak up against today because it does not concern you may affect you directly tomorrow. Any society you see as corrupt did not start the corruption in one day, it was a result of continuous corruption that was allowed to stand. But when you are on the side of the truth, the positive effects will not only be felt by the person directly involved but by the society at large, and even by you.

Peace on y'all
