Seeds of Opportunities in Every Challenge

I remember what a friend once said during one of his speech sometimes ago. He said, "life is full of challenges, yet it is worth living." At some points, you may experience difficulties, tough times, opposition, challenges, etc. It is true that these challenges may not be easy, but the truth is that they are part of what shape the future you desire, and also make you who you are. A lot of the great achievements that you know are not birthed from a place of comfort, but in challenges, difficulties, and those who moved against the odds to convert stumbling-blocks to their advantage and to stepping-stone. Success does not necessarily mean absence of challenges, but using them as opportunities. Which means that you need to look beyond the challenges themselves.

One of the things that I have understood about challenges is that they always teach lessons, help you to develop skills, or even make you to discover some hidden strengths that you may not have known that you have. It is true that you may not see the immediate benefits of every challenge that comes your way, but it actually has the potentials of becoming stepping-stone to achieving great things. This is to say that challenges can be seen as seeds that can shape one's destiny. You will agree with me that when you sow a seed today, you will not see the result the same day, but it does not mean that the harvest will not come in the future. In the same way, challenges may not bring immediate result, but they are the gateway to success.

Challenges unleash your hidden abilities and strengths. You may not really know what you are capable of or your strength, until you are faced with certain situations. A friend was telling me how he did a very unbelievably amazing physical feat when he was faced with a particular emergency situation. He did not know he had that ability until he was faced with that situation. In the same way, a lot of people have been able to discover their potentials through challenges. More so, when you face and overcome challenges of life, it will also make you to build trust and confidence in your abilities. Every challenge that you overcome reminds you that your strengths are bigger than your fears.

There are lessons that someone can learn in challenges that, if not for them, they may never be able to learn. I remember what happened where I did my internship. There was this task I was given when I joined newly. It was a very tough task, and very challenging. I had to study and analyse a lot of materials, asked questions, and did a lot of research just to be able to undertake the task. However, it opened me up to a lot of lessons. I learnt so much by just doing the task, which I applied to a lot of other tasks subsequently. You see, because of the challenges I faced in the task, I learnt a lot of new things which I may not have learnt if not for the challenges.

In addition to teaching lessons, challenges also create opportunities. There are things you may see as setbacks, but there will open other ways to you. No wonder why it is said that "the closure of a door often leads to the opening of another another door." I know someone who was laid off in his place of work. He felt bad and sad about it, and even saw it as a setback. But later, he saw it as an opportunity to work and develop his skills. He started programming training, took online lectures, and even registered for physical training. In about 1 year after being laid off, he was already a programmer and getting programming gigs. At the moment, he has created a lot of projects that are fetching him good money. You see, the challenges opened him to another opportunity.

It is also worthy to note that challenges have a way of building one's character. More often than not, a good character is not built and developed only during the easy seasons of your life, but in the difficult and challenging seasons. Challenges often help one to build patience, determination, humility, integrity, discipline, and perseverance. The way you respond to challenges will eventually shape the kind of person that you will become. You may not be able to avoid challenges, but you can use them for your advantage.
