Finishing Strong What You Started

Have you ever experienced the scenario where you started a particular thing with high spirit and enthusiasm, but along the line, you develop a cold feet, to the point that you lose the motivation to continue? A lot of people have actually experienced this. Starting something new can be very exciting, because the motivation is high, and the energy is also high. However, the true test of your character is not necessarily in how you have started, but it is how you have finished. Being able to finish strong what you have started is what differentiates mere dreamers from people who truly achieve greatness.

You will be surprised how a lot of people begin one project or the other, or even a goal, or commitment with good intentions and zeal, but along the way they may lose momentum. Sometimes challenges may arise, momentum might fade, discouragement may arise, and enthusiasm will reduce. It is at this point that a lot of people give up, because quitting might just seem like a very easy thing to do. But what you need to understand is that abandoning a project or a goal often leads to regrets, wasted efforts, and self-doubt. Everytime you abandon a goal, it affects your confidence negatively. But by completing the goal, you build confidence, self-respect, and integrity.

In order to finish strong, you first need to be clear about your purpose. If you do not know why you started in the first place, and if you do not know what you stand to gain by completing it, there will be nothing to drive you towards completing it. When the reason behind a goal is clear and strong, then persistence and perseverance become easy. It is the purpose behind the action that acts as the anchor when the storms of life would want to discourage you. When you have a clear "why," you will not be swayed off or give up even when challenges come.

To finish strong, you also need to learn consistency. The big achievements that you hope for, and the fulfillment of your dreams, will not come by just a sudden effort, or by overnight effort. But they come by small repeated actions over time. Even if the progress seems slow, it is your steady commitment and consistency that will keep you going. There are some days that you will feel motivated, and there are some days that you may not even have the motivation, but your discipline will carry you through the times where motivation may fail you. It does not matter the speed at which progress is made, even if it is slow, it is still progress. Consistency wins even where talents and skills may not.

In the journey to the actualization of your dreams, you may meet obstacles, but they are not supposed to become roadblocks for you. Challenges are not supposed to be signs for you to stop, rather they are meant to prove to you that growth is actually happening. When you learn to adapt, seek help, and adjust your strategies, you will find the strength to keep going and keep pursuing your dreams. You have to understand that finishing strong does not mean that the journey will be very smooth, neither does it mean that everything will go perfectly for you, but it means that you have made up your mind that you will not quit even if things go rough. In the journey of life, no one will promise you ease, but you have to refuse to quit.

Another thing that will help you to finish strong is focus. The world is already full of distractors, so much that staying committed to your goal is becoming increasingly difficult. This might also lead someone to shifting from one uncompleted project to starting afresh, and the cycle keeps repeating - always starting but not finishing. This is why you have to learn to say no to unnecessary distractions, and then prioritise what serves your best interest. This will help you to preserve your energy for what truly matters to your dream. Always have in mind that it is not always how you started that ultimately counts, but how you have finished.

Peace on y'all
