Developing A Mindset Of Prosperity

One of the things that I have understood about life is that what you think in your mind affects a lot of things that happen within and around you. Prosperity is not just about having money or material possession, but about having the right mentality to attract success. Some people may think that prosperity answers to luck or to some certain privileges, but the truth is that it majorly answers to how you think, plan, and then act. When you think prosperity, it will fashion the way you plan your life, and this will also determine how you act towards it.

Having a wrong mindset is one of the banes of a lot of people. I once overheard someone saying that any business man that wants to make much money will not be honest. I was shocked at the level of depravity that he showed. With that mentality, he had already concluded within himself that he cannot make an honest living. What he forgot was that there are lots of people making very honest and clean living and they are living comfortably well. When you believe that you can make it, it will influence how you plan and then the kind of actions you take. The success that you will experience in life will first have its root in your mind and your mentality.

The power of a prosperity mindset is without question. This is the mindset that focuses on growth, development, abundance, and seeing opportunities in everything. Trust me, the same thing you are seeing as a problem is what someone else may be seeing as an opportunity. I remember some years back, when we went to a particular community for posting, during our internship programme for a couple of months. During that time, the only transformer serving the community went bad. So for a couple of weeks, there was no electricity until it was repaired and power was restored. It was actually the first time something like that would happen in the community and lasted that long, so they were definitely not prepared for it.

While everyone was seeing it as a problem, we had a different view of the whole thing. There was this friend of mine who I went together with, who we had a discussion. We actually went with a small generator popularly called "I pass-my-neighbour" in this side of the world. We noticed that the locals would go to the next village to charge their phone in a business centre and then come back. So we bought some extension sockets and did a little connection with the generator. Then we started a phone charging centre in front of the house. We charged a subsidized rate for it and instead of the people going to the next village to charge their phone for higher price, they would patronise us.

The money paid was enough to buy fuel for the generator, and for a few other things. So basically, we were also having light on a paid fuel, while making extra money. We had a different mentality from what they had. We never saw problem in what happened, rather we saw opportunities. This made us to plan for it, then took action. You have to understand that what you do is heavily dependent on what you had conceived in your mind. The mind is like the foundation of a building. Without a foundation, then the building will not be built. In the same way, without the mindset of positivity, there will be a limit to what you can achieve. Remember that actions are birthed in the thoughts of the mind.

There are some mindsets that you should have if you want to command prosperity. The first one is that you should always think solution, not the problem. When something happens, there must always be a way out. When you proffer the solution, you will be paid. Most of the people who have prospered in life had solution that they provided. If you have what people want, they will come for your services. You also need to learn to set financial goal. For example; you may have a goal of saving 20% of what you earn per month. When you have it as a goal, it will drive your actions.

You also need to have an investment mentality. You should not wait until you have everything in your hand before you invest. From what you have saved and with what you have, you can start small and then grow.
