Delay; An Enemy Of Destiny

There was a time when my friend told me about how he missed out of a military recruitment some months back and I understood the negative effect of delays. When the recruitment started, he was procrastinating with the hopes that there was still time. Then he decided start just a few days before the close of the process. However, when he went there, some of the academic requirements they needed was not with him even though he has concluded he education, so he was required to go and bring them. He had to travel to his school to demand for the original of his certificate. However, the process took a few days to be completed. By the time he got his certificate, the military recruitment was over. If he had started on time, he would have finished before the close of the process. This is the negative effect of delays.

There is almost nothing that fights someone's destiny as delays. Sometimes, the problem facing someone is not even from someone outside, nor from some "village people" but oftentimes from delayed actions. You will be surprised that one of the reasons why a lot of people fail is not because they are not talented nor because they do not have opportunity, but because they do not take prompt actions. Delay is a silent enemy. It does not scream at you, it does not shout, rather it subtly and quietly whispers to you that "you still have time," "tomorrow is better," or "do it when the conditions are perfect."

Destiny does not wait for the perfect condition, rather it relies on prompt action. You have to understand that the universe is not waiting for you to act. As a matter of fact, whether you take a step or not, the earth will still be moving and will not stop for you. You do not wait until the perfect time or perfect opportunity to take a step, the right time is now. Even if you fail at doing something, you are still better than succeeding at doing nothing. At least you would have gathered enough experience for the next step that you will take.

Opportunity normally comes with seasons. Which means that when the season for a particular opportunity is passed, it may not return back in the same form again. When you delay an action, you do not only miss opportunity, but you weaken momentum. The very moment you create an idea or you receive inspiration or motivation, there is usually an energy attached to it. The energy is meant to push you into taking action. But when you procrastinate the action, the initial fire dies out, and you will need a fresh motivation. More so, the same thing that felt urgent to you today, when you delay the action, it will begin to feel optional. Over the time, repeated delays will condition the mind to be begin to treat important matters casually.

You will be surprised how great dreams are not achieved because of the space between intention and action. You may have an intention to start a business, to learn a skill, to build a habit, to develop yourself, etc. Well, intention is good and powerful, but it will be incomplete without adding actions to it. Not just actions but prompt actions. Delay simply creates comfort zone around your unfinished plans. It is not just about being busy planning, researching and preparing, what about the execution? It is not just the idea that gets you the results you want, but you need to power it with quick action. Most times, a delayed action carries the same negative consequences as not taking the action at all.

It is worthy to note that delay also compounds your fears. The longer you wait to do what you deem difficult, the more difficult it will appear, and the bigger it will be in your mind. Delaying even a small task may eventually make it look so big, and the thoughts of doing it might begin to look scary. This is why you need to be prompt with your actions.
