Bloom Where You Are Planted

A lot of people wish for a perfect environment so that they can bloom. But what they do not understand is that they can actually thrive where they are. Life may not give you the kind of perfect condition that you dream of. Sometimes you may even find yourself in a situation that you did not choose for yourself, and this situation may feel very uncomfortable, might look limiting, or even unfair. Yet, one of the most powerful lessons that you can teach yourself is that you can actually bloom in that particular situation. More often than not, your environment does not determine your success, but what determines your success basically is your mindset.

Some days ago, I saw something amazing within the compound that made me understand that someone can actually bloom where they are. I discovered that a flower was growing through the crack on the concrete floor just by the entrance of the gate. It was an awesome sight. Now the point is that the location was not perfect, the weather was still not perfect, and almost every condition negated it, yet it was growing. Instead of it to wait for the perfect condition, it used what was available; sunlight, the little soil in the crack, and a little water, and it found a way to grow. Imagine something as beautiful and adorable as a flower growing in the most unlikely place. In the same way in life, you can make a choice to rise and bloom even when your surroundings are not too ideal.

Many people wish that they were somewhere else before they begin to work on their goals. They say "if only I am in this place, if I have this opportunity, if the condition is perfect, I would have done this." It is true that your environment can actually influence you, there is no doubt about that. But a greater truth is that your environment should not limit you. If you continue to wait for the perfect condition, you may continue to miss opportunities. Growth actually begins, not from waiting for the best situation, but by making the best out of where you are. A lot of others have achieved greatness with a far less support than you have, why not you?

Thriving and blooming where you are means that you are using the resources you have to the best you can. It means developing your skills, building yourself, developing your mindset, and taking continuous step forward even if the progress looks small. It is true that you may not have every single thing you want now, but you definitely have something that you can start with. Something like time, energy, effort, creativity, skill, and determination. It is when you focus on what you have and what you can do, instead of what you lack, that you will begin to unlock the possibilities that lie inside you.

Blooming and thriving where you are also means that you are building strength through the challenges that come to you. Some people view challenges as barriers, but you have to see them as the training ground for your future. When a plant is exposed to the wind, it will grow stronger roots. In the same way, different situations can actually help you to develop your character and make you better. It also helps you to learn resilience, adaptability, and patience. These qualities rarely develop in the comfort zone, but they are developed in challenges and struggles.

It is worthy to note that to bloom or to thrive where you are planted does not mean being stuck at a place forever. Growing where you are is to prepare you for the next phase of your life, not to make you stuck at it. As you improve on yourself and develop certain aspects of you, new and better opportunities will be opened to you. These opportunities will come when you are able to thrive and bloom where you are. Always remind yourself that even though your environment and your situation may influence certain things about you, but it should not define who you are. Just like the flower I cited earlier, you have the ability to grow, adjust, adapt, and shine from where you are.
