Be The Person Your Future Needs

It is true that everyone has a dream of a better future; greater influence, greater success, meaningful impact, financial stability, etc. However, a lot of people just focus on what they want to achieve, yet they do not focus on who they need to become in order to achieve it. What they fail to understand is that the future they want will not be created by mere wishes, but by committing to personal growth. If you want to live the kind of life that you have always desired, then you must be prepared to become the kind of person that life requires. That means that you have to build yourself to become the person that your future needs.

Every level of success that you want to attain will demand a better version of you. The future you require will be built on discipline, responsibility, knowledge, emotional maturity, resilience, etc. If you desire leadership in the future for example, you have to develop integrity and self-control. If you want financial stability in the future, then you have to build yourself for financial growth, then go for more financial wisdom. If it is influence that you want, then you have to build character and credibility. If you want your future to be sustained, then you have to lay a good foundation for it.

A friend once told me how she started her cosmetics business. She always dreamt of going into the beauty world even right from when she was small. But she did not just sit and kept dreaming and wishing for the business to launch itself. What she did was to attach herself to a cosmetics brand in the neighborhood she lived. She even paid for the training programme. She knew that she needed the necessary knowledge to be able to make it in the fashion world. It was in her stay at the organisation that she learnt the vital things she needed for her business. She developed herself, both in terms of knowledge and otherwise. After the set time, she concluded her programme and started her own brand. Adorably, she is doing well. She built herself for the kind of future that she needs, and that was what led to her growth.

It is worthy to note that growth begins with proper self-evaluation. Ask yourself if you have the capacity to handle the kind of future that you need. Imagine applying for a job as a programme and software engineer, yet you do not know how to write a single line of code. Now tell me, if you get the job, how capable are you to handle it? A lot of people are experiencing difficulties in life simply because they have not developed capacity to handle what life brings to them. It is when your preparedness meets opportunities that amazing success will be birthed.

In order to become the person that your future needs, you also need to embrace learning. You cannot rely solely on what you knew yesterday, because newer trends emerge, eras evolve, and new demands spring up. This is why you need to embrace continuous learning. Read books, go for seminars, seek for mentorship, ask questions, discover more. With the way the world is evolving, those who have refused to grow will be left behind. It is your actions of learning that will expand your capacity and then give you more competence. It also makes you more valuable. And the more valuable you are, the bigger opportunities you attract.

One more thing to look at, that will prepare you to become the person your future needs is character development. Your skills and your qualifications may open doors for you, but you will need character to keep them open. When I talk about character, it includes trustworthiness, humility, meekness, accountability, consistency, and responsibility. A lot of people rise quickly, but fall because they lack the required character to support the new height. You need to build a strong character, so that you will be able to sustain the success you desire.
