RE: Why is this still a thing?

Oh no way, if we have door knocking people we just know it's risky. They are usually from Melbourne scouting for tree work to rip off unsuspecting old people and don't know what they are doing... Just hacking. It's that or the Jehovah's occasionally which we politely decline or hide.

We eat on couch for same reason. We did set up a good habit when we first moved in but unless it's a particularly messy meal we are on couch. We talk to each other all the time so it's not necessary to force it over tea. When my boy was at home we usually ate at the table of course. My parents never ever let us eat in front of the telly so even now I feel naughty and rebellious doing it and I'm 55!

We live in a pretty safe neighborhood, but even so, these days you can just never be so sure. It usually is a red flag if the person is a minority too because our area just isn't that ethnically diverse. I don't really care, but it just stands out as an obvious sales person when you see them. We used to eat at the table too, mostly when we had our dog and we needed her not in our face all the time. Now that she is gone, we have migrated to the couch. I actually just made that connection now. Man we miss her.

Oh gosh. I'm sorry to hear that. Out furry friends do rearrange our lives.

I get you on the ethnicity thing. I didn't want to say it is always Pacific Islander people because I worries I'd sound racist but there's a particular group here that are known for it. They always seem nice but there's stories so it makes you wary, sadly. Whether it's true or not, it puts you on guard.
