The lucky horseshoe.
On a hot afternoon, Ada was walking home from the market with her basket half full. Sales had been slow, and she worried about how to manage the week. As she walked along the dusty path, her eyes caught something shiny by the roadside. Curious, she bent down and picked it up. To her surprise, it was a horseshoe, old but strong, shaped like a perfect “U.”
At once, Ada remembered her grandmother’s words: “If you find a horseshoe, keep it close. It brings good fortune.” Smiling at the thought, she slipped it into her basket and continued home.
Later that evening, Ada sat in front of her stall, staring at the unsold yams. Just as she was about to close for the day, her neighbor approached. He explained that his family had unexpected visitors and needed to buy food quickly. Without hesitation, he bought almost all the yams at a fair price.
Ada was overjoyed. She touched the horseshoe in her basket and whispered softly, “Maybe Grandma was right after all.” From that day, she kept the little piece of metal hanging by her door as a reminder of hope.
