Don’t pick that is a strict and commanding statement mostly from an elderly person, usually from a parent to a younger one or ward.
It may interest you to know how the statement “don’t pick that" had a profound impact on my life, growing up, we were strictly warned not to pick anything on the ground, if you see anything on the ground, be it money or any valuable item on the ground, don’t pick that, they said, this was a strict warning and instruction that came with a cautionary tale that bestowed fear in our hearts.

We were told when we were young, that picking anything on the ground would immediately transform into a tuber of yam, and that it was a tactic kidnappers and ritualists usually do to kidnap people for their ritual practice. This cautionary tale has been passed down from generation to generation, our parents were told the same tale by their parents and so was their parent’s parent before them.

Don’t pick that became an item and a topic of discussion while growing up, the statement “don’t pick that” has sharpened my life in numerous ways, hardly will you see me pick anything on the ground. Our parents’ reason for the "don’t pick that" statement was to prevent us from not picking up some harmful things from the ground that could cause us injuries, sharp objects, broken bottles, needles and the like, and picking up contaminated items like dirty diapers, used tissue that could result to the transfer of bacteria, fungi to our hands which could further result to us being infected from the contact of such and cause us to fall ill.
