MY JOURNEY WITH LEARNING: OVERCOMING CHALLENGES AND DISCOVERING PASSIONS

Learning has always been something I find difficult. I usually have to put in a lot of effort before I grasp something most times. While I was in school, I had to read about a particular subject over and over before class to get a better understanding of the topic. I also needed to revisit the topic for revision before I could fully grasp the concept. Only on a few occasions, mostly when it came to calculations or a course or subject that dealt with numbers, did I find it very easy and simple to grasp.

There are two things I have tried so hard to learn for years now, but they haven't stuck: the guitar and graphic design. I've always loved the guitar right from when I was a little boy and had a strong desire to learn. However, one thing about me is that I'm usually too lazy to learn something because of what I mentioned earlier. Once I feel like something is going to be difficult for me to learn, I tend to be too lazy to start.

After so many years of longing, I decided one time in my final year at the university to seek help from a friend of mine. But my friend insisted that I learn the piano instead, saying it would be easier for him to teach me and for me to learn. Since I didn't really have much interest in learning the piano, the lessons didn't last very long. However, I've recently decided to learn on my own, and the first step to doing that is getting myself a guitar, which is a plan in motion as I write this.

The second thing I found very difficult to learn was graphic design. After my Youth Service year, which is something we do in my country after graduating from university, I developed an interest in learning a skill, and what came to my mind was graphic design. I was able to save up for a system and started learning as soon as I could, as I had a friend who was so willing to teach me that he even traveled three hours from where he lived to meet me just to show me all that was necessary before we could proceed with the rest of the lessons virtually. I still found it very difficult to learn, and it made my learning progress very slow. After so many months of devotion, I had no option but to take a break from it.

I think the problem I have is developing serious interest in whatever it is that I want to learn, and I also have a problem learning on my own without proper guidance or a plan.

I recently started learning data analysis rather than graphic design, since it aligns more with what I'm interested in and has to do with analytical thinking and numbers, which is going well so far.
