FROM CURIOSITY TO CATASTROPHY
I have always wanted to try everything and have a personal experience for myself, wanting to know what it feels like to be intoxicated by cannabis and alcohol. However, I promised myself not to do any of these until I was in college, and I wasn’t going to become addicted to any of it. I just wanted to know what it felt like to be high.
I started this journey by taking a bottle of Star Lager beer, then increasing it to five bottles to get intoxicated. But it so happened that I still didn’t get the feeling I wanted; I was not happy with the situation and decided to continue the experiment, this time with a stronger brand. I decided to go for Legend, taking three bottles at a time, and I still didn’t get the feeling I was expecting. Maybe I didn’t really know how I was supposed to feel. With much frustration, I decided to mix a drink called Chelsea gin and Legend beer to see how far it would get me. This was an experience I will never forget in my life.

It was a Champions League day, so I decided to take my friends to an open garden where we normally go to watch football. I ordered a bottle of Chelsea gin and one bottle each of Legend beer for each person. While drinking, I discovered I was still not getting high, and I decided to rush the gin in order to get high quickly. It so happened that before the first half ended, I was already wasted, and they had no choice but to take me home. It was as if I was unable to stand up from the seat I was on. A friend had to give me a hand before we were able to leave the garden. I was placed on a bike while one of my friends sat behind me to hold me down.
It became worse when we got home because this time, I could not walk forward; it was as if I was put in reverse gear. While my friend was trying so hard to make me walk towards him, I could only walk backward. There is a saying I used to hear while growing up, “Ya sha mai reverse,” meaning he drank something that put him in reverse. I always found this statement funny, but that day it wasn’t funny for me. It took me having to throw up everything I had taken before I could feel a bit better and was able to sleep.

The next morning, I was unable to eat and stayed that way for more than three days before I could eat something. That was the last day I took anything that had gin in it, and till date, I am unable to stand the smell of gin.
