Before I entered a higher institution, I never knew what it meant to hustle; everything I had ever spent was provided to me by my parents, and sometimes we got gifts from visitors or during celebrations. This was so because my parents completely frowned upon it. They will claim that if we start earning money early in life, it will discourage us from completing our schooling, since the reason we were in school in the first place was to make money. As such, my father saw to it that I never learned any skill or craft before graduation.

Side hustle simply means something one could do on the side to make a living. This is to say that for someone to have a side hustle, one must have full-time activities that occupies his/her time. It was in my second year that some friends introduced me to the idea of engaging in an activity for the purpose of earning wages for the first time in my life. My friend Mesh, who was a chemistry student then, told me about waiting on tables at weddings on weekends, since I was not really in it for the money. What he used to lure me was when he said that food was going to be in excess, and we would get as many drinks as we wanted after the event.

The amount we were paid was two thousand naira, but we will have to use about six hundred naira for transport, leaving us with one thousand four hundred. It was my first earning in my life, and I felt like I was a grown-up because of the earnings I made. After the first time, I kind of enjoyed the work because it lets me go to the town every weekend, and I was assured of eating different varieties of meals and drinking different varieties of drinks, even the ones I never knew existed.
