Opening of the Free Energy Market!

A change we have seen in the electricity sector was the arrival of a new provisional measure 1.300/2025 that aims to modernize the sector, providing greater efficiency, competitiveness and transparency. This change will favor distributed energy generation, benefiting distributed energy generation funds and companies. This measure aims to promote a broad reform in the Brazilian electricity sector, but it still needs to be approved by Congress to become definitive law.

The first change will be the Opening of the Free Energy Market, in which the consumer will be able to choose their energy supplier, as is done with internet and TV, for example. Industrial and commercial consumers will be able to migrate to the free market from August 2026, while other consumers will only be able to participate after December 2027. There will also be greater transparency and a more balanced division of energy costs among all consumers, including subsidies for distributed generation and the costs of energy generated by Angra 1 and Angra 2.

Finally, there will be a change in the Social Electricity Tariff, which will increase the exemption from paying the electricity bill for low-income families that consume up to 80 kWh per month. Previously, the exemption was up to 50 kWh, that is, there was a 30 kWh increase in exempt consumption. The expectation is to reduce defaults, energy theft and distributor costs. The cost of this social tariff, which should reach more than 3 billion reais, will be offset by the opening of the market and balancing of internal costs.

International Scenario

In the United States, the CPI, which is the index that measures inflation, rose 0.1% in May, raising the annual rate to 2.4%, while the target was 2% per year. This makes a reduction in interest rates less likely at the next FED meeting.

In addition, we have seen an increase in conflicts in the Middle East, which has created uncertainty regarding the oil issue and consequently impacted the S&P stock market, which fell 0.48%, and the price of Bitcoin, which fell more than 3%, which has taken other cryptocurrencies down with it. On the other hand, gold has risen once again by 2.38%, surpassing $3,400.

Abertura do Mercado Livre de Energia!

Uma alteração que tivemos no setor elétrico foi a chegada de uma nova medida provisória 1.300/2025 que vem para modernizar o setor, dando mais eficiência, competitividade e transparência. Essa mudança vai favorecer a geração distribuída de energia, beneficiando fundos e empresas de geração distribuída de energia. Essa medida vem para promover uma ampla reforma no setor elétrico brasileiro, mas ainda precisa ser aprovada pelo congresso para se tornar lei definitiva.

A primeira mudança será a Abertura do Mercado Livre de Energia, em que o consumidor poderá escolher o seu fornecedor de energia, como é feito com internet e TV por exemplo. Os consumidores industrias e comerciais poderão migrar para o mercado livre a partir de agosto de 2026, enquanto os demais consumidores poderão participar apenas depois de dezembro de 2027. Terá também mais transparência e uma divisão mais equilibrada dos custos de energia entre todos os consumidores, incluindo os subsídios à geração distribuída e os custos da energia gerada por Angra 1 e Angra 2.

Por fim terá alteração na Tarifa Social de Energia Elétrica, que aumentará a isenção do pagamento de conta de luz para famílias de baixa renda que consumam até 80 kWh por mês. Antes a isenção era até 50 kWh, ou seja, houve um aumento de 30 kWh no consumo isento. A expectativa é diminuir a inadimplência, furtos de energia e custos das distribuidoras. O custeio dessa tarifa social que deve chegar a mais de 3 bilhões de reais será compensado pela aberto do mercado e equilíbrio dos custos internos.

Cenário Internacional

Nos Estados Unidos o CPI, que é o índice que mede a inflação, subiu 0,1% em maio o que eleva a taxa anual para 2,4%, sendo que a meta era de 2% ao ano. Isso faz com que a uma redução dos juros não seja tão provável na próxima reunião do FED.

Junto disso tivemos a elevação dos conflitos no Oriente Médio, que gera uma incerteza na questão do petróleo e consequentemente impacta o mercado de ações S&P que caiu 0,48% e no preço do Bitcoin fazendo cair mais de 3%, o que leva junto as demais criptomoedas. Em contrapartida temos o ouro subindo mais uma vez 2,38%, passando dos $3400.
