Building My Retail Empire In 2025.

I thought to share with you my vision for this year and use my blogs as a way to track my progress. I'm not only going to be doing a vision report niche, I would definitely veer into finance, gaming, my favorite sport wrestling (WWE to be precise) and a little bit of science sometimes. I'm not the type of person that sticks to a particular niche, I like to explore so many fields, but the unfortunate truth about that is you become a master of nothing. So my area of expertise would definitely be in finance. I offered accounting back in college and my number one passion in life is to build businesses.

I'm what you would call an entrepreneur.

My blogs would definitely be dominated by finance and mostly crypto since it's obvious that most people on this Blockchain are already well informed about cryptocurrency.

My Vision

I'm sharing this for various reasons:

  1. So you would get to know me: if you feel upon reading about my vision, we are in the same boat, I would really appreciate it if you leave a comment down below, I would be so happy to be friends with you.

  2. To Get to Know you: Boy I would be so happy if you use this blog as a way to discuss your personal goals and vision for this year, it would motivate me or anyone else who stops by this post.

  3. To Express Myself: In person, I find it difficult to share my views, although my friends and family have been fighting me over that, I still haven't been able to do it. So I will try to use this platform to build that kind of self-confidence. With that being said, anything I say in this blog or future blogs is nothing but my opinions, it's not fact and therefore anyone can dispute it. As a matter of fact, I would love to see your opposite views on any subject I would blog about.

I have learned in life that most things are more subjective than objective, except for the basic principles so therefore sometimes there can be more than one answer based on:

  1. Location
  2. Upbringing
  3. Educational background
  4. Personal life experiences
  5. Religious background

And the list goes on and on. This is why we all should be open to other people's views. I'm not saying don't stick to your opinion, I'm saying don't fight others for their opinion. Keep your opinions but respect the opinions of others.

I think I have made my point

So to the Vision

I made a thread on inleo giving a brief about it and I would like to elaborate on that in this blog.

https://inleo.io/threads/view/ricky0/re-leothreads-351p56sgw?referral=ricky0

As the year began, I had a discussion with my biological father about opening chains of malls. Now 3 years ago I did a little bit of that but abandoned it to complete my college degree. I was too distracted to take care of it and unfortunately I had some terrible workers with me who screwed me over. So best I thought to close the whole thing. After college (less than 2 years ago) I had lost the passion for it, so I just decided to concentrate on my job and build my accounting career only. But somehow, as 2025 began, the passion I had 3 years ago seemed to have returned, and this time even stronger. One night I couldn't sleep till 4:27 am in the morning as my brain kept wondering about this dream.

Right there I felt this is more than just an extra income business, but a real calling and Destiny. As a little kid I have always dreamed about owning malls like Walmart, Best Buy and you know the rest. So this is a vision that has been with me since childhood. In fact, it's the reason why I chose to study Accounting at college (not because I love accounting, but because I wanted to understand how a business is financially managed).

No Turning Back and Baby Steps:

On the 5th of March 2025, I had a discussion with my Dad about taking up that dream again and this time around not looking back.

Fortunate for me, I didn't sell the store I used to have, it was just closed for the years I left it, so on the 7th of March I reopened it and took a little something I had saved over the years to start stocking up. I'm glad I have a supportive sister who is helping me manage the place.

Currently like I said in the thread, I'm halfway stocking up the place. I have planned to finish stocking by the End of May, since it requires a lot of capital to stock that place up. It's not that big of a place but it takes a lot on the shelves.

When I'm done I would probably load some pictures here but now I feel a little embarrassed at some of the empty shelves to show it. Haha.

Looks like I haven't talked about what kind of shop it is, but judging from the examples of Walmart and Best Buy, you can guess quickly it's a retail store. I'm starting with groceries and soon we would go into electricals and all kinds of gadgets.

I believe in these two things

Why?

As long as Human beings remain, one business that would never die off is a grocery store. Haha, you can start world war 3 God forbid and you can bet my business would not die except if the bombs nuke one of my shops.

Hopefully it never gets to that. Very hopeful

Technology, because it's now deeply engrained in our daily lives and almost a necessity for today's world's survival. Take technology away and I bet you in a few hours and days economies will collapse immediately. So, people will always need the new gadgets.

I don't know who said this but it goes like this:

"When everyone is digging for gold, you start selling shovels."

This is my mentality for the choice of business I'm into.

Road Map

I have decided to establish 2 grocery shops this year. The first one which is already in operation but more than halfway stocked and the second one which I'm already seeing the owner of the building to talk about the rent. Yeah, I might have to rent that for now, my capital is not enough to purchase the block. But surely one day we will purchase instead of rent.

The good thing is, both shops are not so far away from my residence so managing and monitoring won't be so difficult, and besides I'm blessed with a lovely sister who is helping me manage so I should do just fine hopefully.

What I did today

I went to the wholesale shops and bought some more goods. I have started looking into borrowing some money to help finish stocking up the place and roll over the money till the profit margin becomes a big enough capital. Hence why I was threading about debt yesterday, for all those who followed my threads.

I listened to Robert Kiyosaki and many other financial gurus talk about using debt. It's quite a risky game, but like Warren said, it's only risky if you don't understand what you're doing. I'm currently studying deep into how to use debt so I would appreciate it if you can leave some of your experiences in the comment section for me.

Thanks for taking the time to read a little about my life, hope to hear from you.

Interesting !

I think the situation in each country will create a different environment and challenges for retail around the world. But my experience is that there are a few things which will be true wherever you are.

My first thoughts are;

  • Before buying stock, have you looked at what your competitors are selling those items for, and if you can make enough margin on them (allowing for wastage for products with expiry dates, in-store damage etc) ?
  • Have you looked at stock turn ? There's no point filling the shelves with items that won't sell !
  • Rather than filling the shop with stock before building a customer base, just put in what you know will sell; you can always move some shelves to hide an area that hasn't got stock yet, or (if local regulations allow) take out some shelves entirely and put a small coffee shop or cafe in the space.
  • Debt is a killer for retail business margins. All your profit could go on paying the interest. If you need finance, the first place to start is by negotiating payment terms with your suppliers. In a perfect world, if you've got the right amount of the right stock at the right price, you'll sell it before you even need to pay your supplier ! Then, paying your supplier early might allow you to negotiate discounts or better margins.

Good luck ! Retail can be a hard path, but if you are determined, resilient and plan well you can do it !

Boy what a wise counsel this comment is. You've got a great point, I guess I was too passionate to see my shelves get full and look attractive, and gave very little thought to "what if the goods don't get sold and expires due to low demand".

Hmm this comment is a timely one.

You're right again, it's better to borrow supplies than cash. I used to borrow from a supplier 3 years ago, and she made it very flexible for me. Unfortunately she is no longer in the business so I would have to build a new relationship with my current supplier. TBh, I have no experience financing my store with loan, and so I was being careful with that idea. Based on this comment, I'm going to put a hold on the debt for now, and do what you suggested on hiding some of the shelves.

Thanks so much. I just followed you

Welcome! Great to have u on Hive and thinking about using HBD as ur currency in your businesses. Distriator.com is a great way to give ur clients discounts for spending HBD. Check this site out to see it in action: https://spendhbd.social.gifts/
Also @fokusnow has just opened his first super market in Nigeria using this program and has a lot of support from the hive community for making it a hive backed business hub. Maybe u can do a similar thing?

Wow that would be awesome to make it a Hive backed business Hub. I'm definitely looking it that in a couple of hours. Thanks so much.

(Edited)

Great ideas and some work already on the way. Taking this career path is never easy, but SpendHBD has helped me set up a grocery shopping mall and turned out numbers in less than 2 months. If your business accepts HBD and gives customers 20-40% instant cash back, you are going to see sales double or triple like mine. And just as @starkerz mentioned, the hive community might show you love and support as you share your story.

I wish you all the best as you take up this project and let me be of help if you wish to start accepting HBD in your mall.

My few times here many have been recommending this to me. I'm going to start looking into that seriously.
Thanks so much for the recommendation.
