Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Ruleset Revelations - Water Is The Most Speedy Element?

It's been almost two months since I did a Community Engagement Challenge and when I saw that this week's theme was Ruleset Revelations, I thought why not give it a shot?

The ruleset I wanted to talk about today is actually a relatively new - Need for Speed! For Need for Speed ruleset, we can only summon units that have speed more than 3.

We all know how important speed is for Splinterlands battles, and one strategy that has helped me a lot is to go Water lineups! Water cards, at least for my deck, generally have a lot of cards with high speed so this means we get a bigger variety of cards to choose from. What's more, one of the Water summoners, Kelya Frendul, also had a +1 Speed boost and that gives an additional edge in the battle as well.

Amidst all the summoners these days, it's so easy to forget about Kelya Frendul, whom I believe is quite a staple summoners in most of our battles. Personally, I like it so much that I even bought a Gold Foil copy to supplement my Regular Foil. Hehe. At 4 mana, it is very versatile to all lineups because 1 Armor and 1 extra Speed boost is very universal.

So here's the lore for the featured card this post:

Kelya's home in Vorlan was lavish and full of prizes. On the walls hung weapons of great warriors and artifacts from deep dungeons. There were rooms filled to the brim with treasure and libraries overflowing with knowledge, tomes, and manuscripts. She had hundreds of servants and was butled from dawn until dusk. She even has the pleasure of leading the most stalwart and tactical squadron around, the Wave Breakers, a group of dwarven warriors. She uses Water magic to create weapons of crystallized water. Yet, there was one thing she sought about all else: the Silver Shield and Silver Sword.

Kelya amassed so much wealth exploring numerous lands, she purchased a fleet of ships and built her home on the small island of Vorlan. Surrounded by sea and mist, she and her Wave Breakers constantly plot ways of finding the sword and shield. They also love a good challenge and especially enjoy combat. She and the Wave Breakers are often hired as mercenaries to clear out dungeons and fight on behalf of the highest bidder. The next highest bidder to come calling just so happened to be the Chaos Legion.

Kelya doesn't ask questions as long as her pockets are lined with coins and treasure. Yet, the promise of arriving in Kymia was more than enough for her to take the job. The legendary silver weapons may well be within her grasp and the Chaos Legion is her ticket to fortune and glory.

Using a recent battle to illustrate, here's the 6 Water cards that I have picked out for this battle! As you can see, most of these cards more than meet the required minimum 3 speed, and some cards like Djinn Oshannus has speed as high as 5!

Water CardSpeed
Djinn Oshannus5
Kulu Mastermind4
Isgald Vorst4
Coastal Nymph3
Axemaster4
Swamp Spitter3

So let's see how I fare against my opponent, who has fielded the dreaded Quora Towershead. If you realised, their entire deck barely meet the minimum required 3 speed.

Round 1: Both teams lost a card each and there's still all to play for for both teams!

image.png

Round 2: Is this going to go down to the wire? Both teams seemed evenly matched after 2 rounds, with 4 cards each. The dreaded Quora Towershead is there to wreck haovc but I have the higher damage output.

Round 3: And all of a sudden, we were almost there! Axemaster was the MVP in this one, dealing 4 damage per round with the 2 quick swipes.

Victory!

You can view the battle here.

So to sum up:

In my opinion, Water cards seem to be of a higher speed and they make the best choice for Need for Speed ruleset. As you can see from this battle, they have a wide range of cards, be it Melee, Ranged, or Magic cards. Other than these, there's cards like Tide Biter, Kulu Swimhunter, Nerissa Tridawn, which have high speed too, and these are cards that we are all familiar with.

That's all I have! Let me know if you have any thoughts too!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
