Since it was created, artificial intelligence has lived trapped inside screens, but now it is starting to gain a face, a Shanghai-based robotics startup called AheadForm has just shown the world a new humanoid robot that is attracting attention for its almost disturbingly realistic appearance.

The model is called Origin F1 and the company's proposal is to take artificial intelligence off the screens and put it face to face with us humans. Origin F1 has an extremely detailed robotic face developed to enable natural social interactions with AI systems. To achieve that level of realism, engineers created a structure with bionic synthetic skin and more than 25 to 30 facial micromotors capable of reproducing extremely subtle movements.

That includes blinks, microexpressions, smiles and synchronized eye movements, creating something much closer to real human communication, but appearance is only half the story. These robots were designed to integrate directly with advanced artificial intelligence models, including language models and vision-language systems, allowing the robot to perceive the environment, recognize human emotions and respond with natural speech.

In a recent demo published by the company itself, researchers showed exactly how that interaction works in practice. In the experiment, Origin F1 was connected to a model already called Omni, a system capable of processing vision, audio and language simultaneously in real time. Unlike traditional systems called VLM that combine vision and text, the Omni model allows for complete multimodal interaction, that means the robot can see the environment, hear the person, interpret the context of the conversation and respond with synchronized speech, all occurring live during human interaction.

It is not just a chatbot with a face, it is a totally new form of interface, finally, artificial intelligence stops existing within screens and begins to manifest itself through a physical robotic body. According to AheadForm, Origin F1 was designed precisely as a research platform for the future of the already incorporated, paving the way for a new generation of interactions between humans and machines.

The ultimate goal is to create robots capable of forming emotional bonds with people, but creating robots capable of conversing and expressing emotions is only part of the challenge, because in the physical world talking is not enough, robots need to act naturally.
