Why Motivation Fails but Consistency Wins

Consistency and motivation are both important in their own way, but when it comes to achieving success or any goal, consistency always works more than motivation, and motivation is like a sparkle. A spectacle of enthusiasm provides us with the light to move ahead for some time. However, if we rely solely on motivation, we cannot work regularly, as motivation is unpredictable, and consistency becomes a habit. It is a discipline which we have to follow whether we want to or not.

Imagine there is a boy named Raj who joined the gym on the first day he went with great enthusiasm, wore clothes, took a protein shake and worked out with full energy and went on the second day as well and on the third day, he got a little tired and the motivation started to decrease, and after a week, he stopped going to the gym. Now, on the other hand, there is another boy, Aman, who also joined the gym, and he commented to himself that even if he does a little, he should go daily and sometimes for an hour and sometimes for only 20 minutes and he did not give up, and after 3 months, Aman's body started showing a difference. While Raj remained the same. This is the power of consistency.

When we keep doing any work regularly, then slowly that work becomes our habit and when something becomes a habit, then the effect is less, and the result starts increasing and Motivation is an emotional push, but an emotional push is not capable. If you are in the mood today, then do less. If the mood is bad tomorrow, then leave it. By doing this, we can never achieve long-term success.

Another example is Ritu, a student who is preparing for competitive exams, and initially she watched YouTube videos, listened to interviews of toppers and got very inspired and studied for the first 10 days. But then, after 3-4 days, she started getting bored, and the motivation went away, and then she thought I will study for 3 hours daily. But I will study every day and she made a schedule and worked on it with discipline, and after a year, when the exams came, her mind was fresh, the topics were clear, and her confidence was high well prepared for the exam, and motivation may have helped her initially, but consistency took her to the finish line.

Many times in life, we get excited for some new work, and for example, we have a New Year's promise, like, I will get up early every morning and i will diet, I will learn a skill, but that excitement goes away within a day because it is based only on motivation and if we promise ourselves a small consistency like doing meditation for just 10 minutes every day or learning a new word every day, then slowly those small things turn into big achievements.

Motivation gives 100% at once, but comes sometimes. Consistency gives one per cent every day, but always comes, and when we go one per cent daily, then there is a growth of 30% in a month and 365% in a year. And this is simple maths. People who understand this move forward in life and rely only on enthusiasm and outer show, then their journey gets stuck in the middle.

I myself am an example of something, and when I started writing, on the first day, I wrote with a lot of ideas and from my heart, people liked it, and then after a few days, I started falling short of writing. I did not feel like writing, and earlier I thought I would write when inspiration would come, but then I understood. If you make a habit of writing daily, whether you write good or badly, a flow will be formed, and today I write every day. Sometimes just a paragraph, sometimes the whole blog and then that became my routine, and my writing has become better in it.

You should also think in this way, whether your goal is fitness, studies, career or self-improvement, just starting is not enough. You have to work little by little, and every day you have to get up to the task, and even if you do not have motivation, you still have to take it and that one step takes you away.

So even if today you don't feel like doing any work, still just take a small step and Do it again tomorrow and day after day, that small effort will turn into a big success, and just don't stop and do it every day, even if you do it for 10 minutes or for an hour, do it and you will get motivation. It will feel good, and if you stay committed to your routine, you will surely see success and one important thing in life is that to reach your goals, you need patience and practice. You will get that patience only when you work with discipline the whole day, and just remember one thing, motivation is like a guess, but consistency is a loyal friend which will always be with you.

I always believe that consistency is how you win, the motivation might not be there but if you find a way to stay consistent that's how you win.

You post really made it clear about the difference between the flash of motivation and the slow power of consistency.

Your idea of “1% every day” is something I really admire,it’s so simple but so true. I’ve definitely y up have given me the best results in the long run.
