The Truth About Water Pollution and Our Future

Water, which was once considered the purest and essential part of life, is now slowly turning into poison and concern is that, on the one hand, we feel the need to drink clean water for our bodies every day, but on the other hand, the same water is becoming increasingly polluted and it is causing major diseases for us, and this is a truth that we cannot ignore. When we say that fresh water is becoming poisonous, it means that the water which was previously clean and useful is now filled with chemical and plastic industry waste and bacteria, and the impact of all this is most visible on the daily life of the common man.

Many people in our country still fetch water from a borewell, hand pump, or a nearby river or pond, and for them, it is their only source of life and they do not know that the water they drink every day is destroying their health from the inside. When chemicals, fertilisers, pesticides, industrial waste, etc., are mixed in water, it becomes very harmful to them. When dirty water from horse sewage gets mixed in, all kinds of harmful bacteria and toxins are produced in it. These toxins are very dangerous for the human body. Kidneys gradually start failing. The liver becomes weak, and it also has a bad effect on the digestive system.

A common man cannot see what is mixed in the drinking water. Since the water is transparent, people think that it is clean, but to what level it is polluted from the inside. This becomes known when some symptoms start appearing in the body, like vomiting, loose motion, constipation, fever or skin infection; all these are due to drinking polluted water directly or indirectly, and the biggest impact is on children and the elderly because their immune system is weak.

Many times it happens that we get RO installed in our homes and thinking that everything is safe, but if the source of water is so contaminated, then you will not be able to protect yourself from the water. Everyone knows the condition of big rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna. Every day, industrial waste and regional waste are increasing, and people drink and consume the same from many places. In every city, the water in the drains also passes through pipes at many places where there are leakages or it mixes with the drain. We do this without thinking and bring diseases to our homes.

Water pollution is not just a health issue; it has become a social and economic problem as well. When someone falls sick due to polluted water, their treatment is also costly. Families have to struggle for their daily bread. It becomes difficult for them to bear the hospital expenses. If school-going children fall sick, they miss their studies. If people who go to work for work feel sick, their work gets affected. It means that a water problem can turn their entire life upside down.

Many times, people think that only factories are responsible for polluted water, but the truth is that we all are responsible for this. When we throw plastic bottles, scraps and kitchen waste into rivers or drains without understanding, then we also become partners in this sin. Every small activity has a big impact. When it rains, the same plastic and chemicals mix with rainwater and go into the reverse and underground water, and after some time, they come back to our glasses.

Nowadays, many diseases are caused due to polluted water even in rural areas. There is neither a filtration system nor awareness and people are taking water from borewells, which contain dangerous chemicals like arsenic and fluoride. Fluoride causes loss of height or weakness. Teeth start breaking, and the growth of children stops. Nowadays, chemicals like Arsenic can cause cancer. But all this happens gradually. That is why people do not panic immediately, and by the time they understand, it is too late.

The situation is not very good in cities either. People in film areas live near squares and they do not have access to clean water in their homes. They cook food with contaminated water. They wash clothes and drink the same water, and they are forced to do so. They do not have the awareness that this water is making their lives dangerous to some extent. Any initiative is brought on government labour, but the implementation is very weak.

Waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A and jaundice seem to be ordinary diseases that are spreading only because people do not have access to clean water. Even today, there are a lot of problems in hospitals where patients are getting seriously ill only because of polluted water. This is not just a medical emergency, it is a silent killer that everyone gets rid of one day or the other.

Water operation has become a modern army where, on one hand, there is talk of technology, development and smart cities. On the other hand, even necessities like water are not safe. Every school, hospital, and office should have purified water, and first of all, people should understand how to save water. This should be prevented from happening. It is the responsibility of every citizen to solve this problem rather than the government.

In the end, it would not be wrong to say that if we still do not change our attitude, then a day will come when people will fight for a brand of clean water, and maybe only then will we accept the true meaning of water. We will understand, but maybe it will be too late. We all will have to think together that life runs on water. Why have we turned that water into poison, and until this question does not arise in everyone's mind, change is difficult.
