Hooked Without Knowing – The Hidden Mental Effects of Social Media
In today's era, where every child of the new generation must have some social media apps on their phone, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube, these platforms have become an integral part of people's lives, and they use them day and night. All this is not just an app player for us It has become our life and whenever we wake up in the morning, the first thing we do is check Instagram. We check it before going to sleep. Perhaps we don't know how much role this silent power plays in our minds. We have become used to it. It has become our habit to see every day what updates are happening in our or someone else's life.

Earlier, social media had come with a very good native. It was to connect the world the job of social media was to connect everyone with the world, and this is right as well, because whether it is our old school friend or someone whom we have not met for years, we could talk to it. But we did not know when this natural connection turned into an addiction. Earlier, we used to use social media for one or two hours. Now, it has become such an addiction, it means has become more, we do not know. It seems that we got too much connected to it mentally and emotionally.
On Instagram and Snapchat, people are on vacation. They are partying and buying new clothes and then they are posting their photos. So in our minds, everyone's life is perfect, so why isn't ours This is the silent day after which has entered our mind. We forget to compare that people should show the best part of their life. Our brain believes everyone's faith in our struggles to be real and we start feeling depressed. This is a very big thing in social media that whatever people do, we also imitate them and we should not do all this because we don't even know whether those people are doing that thing in reality or not.
Social media has created a new physical or physiological trap which is called FOMO. We check the social media every time we see the stories and reels. Why do we follow the trending hashtags we feel that it is a very important mission and we want it not to be missed we always have to be in the present moment. This harmed physical but a very big mental challenge because a silent anxiety has developed in a FOMO which is failing in every group and we just feel that we are the only ones who follow this FOMO.

Many studies have proved that excessive social media links lead to depression. When we see a perfect life and compare it with our failure or struggle, we start self-estimating. Every time we see fewer likes on a post, it is a small rejection. All these things together disturb our emotional balance. A mirror has been created in social media, but it is a destructive mirror that is always here. It looks perfect in it.
Whenever we go to bed at night, we think of scrolling for a little while and we do not realize when that little time turns into hours. Blue light from the phone screen blocks the melatonin in our sleep hormones due to which we are unable to sleep properly. Poor sleep affects mood, concentration, and brain health, then we say, I am in a bad mood. Today, the real culprit is there, that midnight scrolling of social media.
The biggest problem of the war is that today's date, due to addiction, one unlocks the phone more than 90 times. He checks the notifications every 5 minutes and whatnot because the design of social media is such that it keeps us busy. When someone likes a post or even a story, there is a little happiness. This little happiness gradually turns into addiction. This is the dangerous part but we are not able to understand it at the time We don't realize the time because it is a slow addiction that happens from time to time.
If you want to leave all this social media, then you will have to do a digital detox. Its solution is simple. Put a screen limit on all your social media apps. If it exits, it will shut down automatically. Digital detox-6 is an important concept. Start it one day. Turn off notifications. There is no need to be online all the time. Feel you're emotional or if it happens with nature, then all this will feel better because if you are always digitally available, then it will make you more free from FOMO or put you in more depression.

In these calculations, I would like to emphasize that social media is a silent yet influential tool, affecting our emotional decisions and identity. Without our knowing, if we become completely mindful and understand the signals of our mind and learn to enjoy real life, then this side effect cannot control us and the thing you are seeing online or on social media doesn't need to be more important. Social media is a tool but do not pass it by, do not let it over you, this is a good line because we should not use social media to control us.
