Hello beautiful ladies here @Ladiesofhive it a great time to be here again this week. I’m glad to be here to join and celebrate the fifth anniversary.
Happy fifth Anniversary to the amazing ladies of the Hive community! 💕 Women are always strong, and you all have shown it through your creativity, support, and resilience. Wishing you many more years of growth, love, and sisterhood. Cheers to every one of you!
If I could bring one thing to our anniversary table, I would bring pounded yam with white soup. That food has always been special to me, not just because of the taste but the memories that come with it. Anytime I hear “white soup,” my mind goes straight to family time, laughter, and those moments when everybody just forgets their worries and enjoys the meal together.
Growing up, it was never an everyday food. In fact, once I hear the mortar and pestle pounding yam, I already know it’s a good day. The sound alone used to drag me straight to the kitchen. I would stand there, waiting, peeping inside the pot while the soup boiled with goat meat and all those nice spices. The waiting was long, but the excitement was even longer.
One of my best memories with pounded yam and white soup is during Christmas holidays. My cousins and I always gathered, and of course, the older ones had to do the pounding while the rest of us just hung around. The moment the food came, all the small fights we had earlier in the day just disappeared. We would all sit, eat, gist, and laugh like nothing ever happened. That’s the magic of that meal—it had a way of bringing peace.
I also think of my mum whenever I see white soup. She never rushed it. She would taste, smile a bit, then add small more seasoning until she was satisfied. She always said, “Food is meant to make people happy, not just fill their stomach.” That line has never left me, and anytime I eat a better white soup, I feel it.
If I bring it to an anniversary table, it’s because anniversaries are not just about marking a date. They are about togetherness. And pounded yam with white soup is one of those meals you can’t eat alone in silence. You must sit down, take your time, gist, laugh, and share that joy with others.
I remember one day my grandma made all of us eat from one big bowl. At first, we thought she was just joking, but she said, “Family that eats together, stays together.” That day, the food even tasted sweeter. And that memory has never left me.
So yes, the dish I would proudly bring is pounded yam and white soup. For me, it’s not just food, it’s comfort, joy, and the reminder that the best moments in life are always shared with people you love.
Once again happy fifth anniversary to @Ladiesofhive community.

Sounds delicious, is it slow-cooked soup? Because the photo of the soup and meat is telling me that the meat will be juicy, tender, and slow-cooked...Thanks for sharing...

I totally agree that when it comes to any meal, it's not just dining but always be a social expression whether in the company of family or friends.
