The Splinterlands Saga - The Ape That Outflew The Earthquake
Splinterlands is like that friend who always shows up with the weirdest snack at game night… and somehow it ends up being everyone’s favorite. The game is packed with flashy legendaries and meta monsters, but let’s be honest... the real fun often comes from the underdogs.
Maybe it’s a quirky combo that makes your opponent’s jaw drop. Or maybe it’s an old-school favorite making a glorious comeback in the current meta like a washed-up rockstar dropping a surprise hit single.
So there I was... feeling confident... when Splinterlands decided to throw me a triple-decker ruleset sandwich: Born Again... Fog of War... and Earthquake. I swear the game whispered, “Good luck, champ,” and then walked away giggling.
First problem... Born Again. Every monster was basically signing up for a “buy one death, get one free” deal. I knew this was gonna be messy. Second problem... Fog of War. No sneak... no snipe... no clever backline takedowns.
My assassin squad just stood there twiddling their daggers like “uhhh... now what?” And finally... Earthquake. That’s right... flying monsters only, baby. If you don’t have wings, you’re basically floor décor.
I scrambled... slapped together a team of flyers... sprinkled in some resurrection-proof ideas... and prayed. The battle began... and it was absolute chaos. Monsters kept dying and popping back up like carnival whack-a-moles.
The Fog of War had everyone fighting blind... and every round the Earthquake was like Mother Nature yelling “FLY OR DIE!”! When the dust settled, my team looked like survivors of a very dramatic soap opera... battered, reborn, and still flapping.
Lesson for new players: when this ruleset combo shows up... think wings first. Prioritize flying monsters... use armor or heals to outlast the Earthquake... and remember that Born Again makes battles drag longer than your grandma’s stories.
Oh... and don’t rely on sneaky tricks in Fog of War... just hit what’s in front of you and hope your flyers don’t suddenly forget how to fly. The odds were stacked against me thanks to a brutal trio of battle rules that completely changed the game.
Fog of War cut off all sneak, snipe, and opportunity attacks, forcing every fighter into a straight-up brawl with no clever backline picks. Then came Born Again, giving every monster an extra life and dragging the fights out longer than usual.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, Earthquake joined the party, hammering every non-flying unit with damage at the end of each round. No cheap tricks and no shortcuts today.... just a grueling war of attrition where only the most durable or airborne could hope to survive. The tactic had to make a difference!
Summoner: +1 Ranged Attack & Flying to all + boosts
Grimbardun Fighter: Melee with Shield & Corrosive Ward
Endless Ape: Melee with Scavenger
Gramel The Hunger: Triple Attack with Charge and Scattershot
Rune Arcanist: Caster with Weaken
Satha Toledo: Ranged with Heal
Meriput Mossmender: Caster with Dodge and Repair
Gramel the Hunger was boosted with Taunt and Redemption by the summoner, taking some pressure off the tank! The enemy went for the Endless Ape as well, but I hid my one in the second position... a tactic that changed the course of the battle!
The repair and heal kept the Grimbardun Fighter fit for the battle, but Gramel wasn't so fortunate! However... dying twice triggered the redemption at double power... hitting all the opponents with two true damage!
All my units were flying, being safe from the earthquake! When the earth trembled... it hit hard on the enemies! The Archon Bolter got revived but my Endless Ape was adding health with each fallen warrior!
It was a test of endurance... for them! My tank was kept unharmed by the Meriput armor repair and Satha's heal! One puny harpy couldn't do much against my army! See the full battle here!
This battle was all about surviving a brutal combo of Fog of War, Born Again, and Earthquake. I fielded a full flying squad to dodge Earthquake damage, with Grimbardun Fighter tanking, Gramel the Hunger drawing fire with Taunt, and Meriput and Satha keeping the front line healed and repaired.
The Endless Ape reached a max health of 25, something that I rarely seen in Splinterlands! The Born Again battle rule helped me on this, but the fight wasn't that challanging! Didn't lose a health point ..

The battle threw Fog of War... Born Again... and Earthquake at me — pure chaos. Most would panic, but I rolled in a full flying squad. Grimbardun tanked... Gramel Taunted and blew chunks of enemies with double Redemption... while Meriput and Satha kept everyone patched up.
The real star? My Endless Ape. Hidden in second position, it quietly stacked Scavenger and revived through Born Again until it hit a ridiculous 25 health. By then it wasn’t just an ape... it was King Kong on steroids.
Earthquake shredded their team... Redemption softened what was left... and when the dust settled? My army hadn’t lost a single health point. Flawless victory.
