The African have respect, that's can't be argued, greeting should be seen as normal and important. Only a fool will say greeting doesn't matter, either young or old, it does.
My parents also didn't do well to pass on their mother tongue to us though we bear the name, but we are yet to settle that matter. I can't overemphasized the importance of one's origin, civilized or not, one should always be connected to it.

Yeah, when you have very educated and English speaking parents, you may fall into that category of not being able to speak your mother tongue, though it's not by your making. Just try for your kids to get that connection as well.
