It might depend on the type of plastic. I know here it is mostly #1 and #2 bottles that get recycled, and the other plastics, not so much.

Oh you mean not all kind of bottles and cans gets recycled?
Generally, at least in the west, glass, metal, and paper get recycled; plastic, worldwide, only 9% of all plastic ever made has been recycled. Ever! That's why there is so much plastic pollution.
The small amount that gets recycled, is mostly #1 and #2 bottles, like what drinks come in. Here the recycling facility collects the other types of plastic, but the odds are very, very low that it will actually be recycled.
There are some programs in some places that are working on other plastics - I saw a docu about a facility in Mexico I think it was that actually recycles Styrofoam (#4), which almost never gets recycled elsewhere - but they are rare and local.
