When it was overdue for a long time, we got a cold shower from our landlord when she decided to raise our rent by 20%!
Coincidently we find ourselves in the same situation right now, as the monthly charges have almost doubled. Over the past months we have been looking around for something smaller and affordable, but no go, and now we are waiting for a miracle :)

Oh, really? What I described was around 2 years ago... We also tried to find something affordable in the area where we lived, but there was no chance... In the end, we had to move almost 100km from our old place, and more inland to find something at a fair price... In that way, we got the same thing for 5 times less money!

It seems at this stage that we will also have to find a home further inland, and you are right about the cost saving.
