The Unseen Skill
Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome π€
It's funny how we often overlook our own talents and skills; we take them for granted and don't think there's anything special about them.
For a very long time, till date, I used to admire people that can sing, dance, and play instruments and people that say spoken words and the likes, because I just think they are uniquely gifted and feel that I don't have any special talents or skills.
However, while reading other people's stories, I realized I possess skills I hadn't recognized. One skill I have is hairstyling. I never went to any salon to learn this or met anyone to teach me; it's just something that developed naturally.
I can vividly remember my first time braiding someone's hair. I was in JSS 2, and we were done with exams but still attending classes. On one of those days, I and some of my classmates were chit-chatting when a classmate asked me to help loosen her hair. When I was done, I didn't know what motivated me. I just started braiding her hair without prior experience. She and I were both surprised at how well it turned out; she didn't believe it was my first time. She and others thought I knew how to make hair all along but was pretending. That was how my hair-making journey started. The more I kept making people's hair, the better and more confident I became.
Then one time my aunt asked me to thread her daughter's hair. I told her I could only braid and that I had never used thread on anyone's hair, but she told me to try. I asked her daughter to come. After threading her hair, I didn't believe it. To my surprise, it turned out well, and I discovered that I could use thread to create different styles. As I continued, my skills improved so much that I even became her daughter's hairstylist.
One other day, my younger sister bought attachments and asked me to braid her hair, and this time around, without hesitation, I agreed to it. The outcome was impressive; as usual, it wasn't looking like it was my first time adding attachments to someone's hair.
That was how I graduated from making people's hair to making my own hair. I remember one time we had some masons that came to work in our house; one of the guys was surprised when he saw me making my own hair. He couldn't believe it because of how shocked he was at how neat the hair was looking, even jokingly calling me a "witch."
It's just incredible how some of our talents can go unnoticed until we're faced with opportunities that reveal them. I want to say thank you to whoever suggested this week's prompt because it just made me realize that I also have skills that I didn't learn. Another bonus skill I am good at is drawing.

THANK YOU FOR READING TO THE END π€
Thank you ma'am π
My sister is just like you, making hair is something natural for her, and she makes her hair as well. I respect you guys a lot.
Lol
Thank you π
You are naturally gifted to be able to do that without learning it anywhere and taking it up to a other level will definitely earn you money, value and reputation. Great talent @ozd
Thank you so much for your warm comment π
Same here. I didn't really learn how to make hair, I just watched and practiced it on my doll. That's how I started.
That's great π
