Pront: Una ambición de amplio alcance.
Cuando yo era un muchacho, recuerdo que tenía muchos sueños que quería cumplir, y en el transcurso de la vida, fui cumpliendo varios de ellos. Recuerdo, que con cada sueño cumplido y con cada logro alcanzado, me sentía muy bien y me sentía el rey del mundo.
De hecho, cometí el error de convertirme en un ser egocentrista, y de creerme capaz de conseguir todo aquello que se me ocurría hacer. Pero no me di cuenta de que mis metas eran realmente pequeñas y de poca importancia.
Y eso se debía, a que mis metas, eran las metas impuestas por la sociedad, para decir que una persona era exitosa. Y realmente me enfoqué en eso, y antes del tiempo que me había propuesto, logré tener carro, moto, casa, una empresa, un amplio nivel de crédito, una compañera preciosa y un buen grupo de amigos.
Y según la sociedad, y según la visión de éxito generalizada, había logrado todo lo propuesto y debería ser feliz. Y, sin embargo, no era así.
Por otro lado, un amigo de mi infancia se planteó, desde un inicio, hacer algo que ayudase a cambiar la realidad del mundo y, en vez de dedicarse a hacer lo que la sociedad planteaba, para ser considerado exitoso. Él se dedicó al estudio y a la investigación.
Y siendo una de las personas más sencillas que conozco, logró su meta, pero con una visión de amplio alcance, dado que siendo médico investigador, trabajó en la fabricación de una vacuna, y sus progresos fueron tan amplios en la investigación médica, que fue becado para ir a Alemania, y allá entró en la industria farmacéutica.
Y después de un par de años patentaron su vacuna. Y no conforme con esto, después se fue a trabajar a África, con Médicos Sin Fronteras, en la atención de niños y personas de escasos recursos, logrando montar una clínica y una fundación, que todavía da ayuda a las personas necesitadas en ese continente.
La última vez que hablé con él, me comentó que estaba muy contento y feliz con lo que estaba haciendo. Y finalmente, me dijo que había cumplido su sueño en la vida, que era el dedicarse a ayudar a los más necesitados, para lograr así hacer un mundo mejor. Eso fue hace unos 20 años.
Y hablando con él, me di cuenta, que muchos de los logros personales y los criterios de vida que tenía, de éxito en la vida, que se basaban en el tener, realmente eran una estupidez, si los comparaba con la ambición de amplio alcance, a la que Rodrigo le había dedicado su vida, y eso, junto a otras cosas, me hizo examinar mi vida y darle un cambio hacia valores más humanos, incluyentes y positivos.

When I was a boy, I remember that I had many dreams that I wanted to fulfill, and over the course of my life, I fulfilled several of them. I remember that with every dream fulfilled and with every achievement achieved, I felt very good and I felt like the king of the world.
In fact, I made the mistake of becoming an egocentric being, and of believing myself capable of achieving everything that I could think of doing. But I didn't realize that my goals were really small and of little importance.
And that was because my goals, they were the goals imposed by society, to say that a person was successful. And I really focused on that, and before the time I had set out, I managed to have a car, a motorcycle, a house, a company, a large level of credit, a beautiful partner and a good group of friends.
And according to society, and according to the widespread vision of success, he had achieved everything he had proposed and should be happy. And yet it was not so.
On the other hand, a friend from my childhood set out, from the very beginning, to do something that would help change the reality of the world and, instead of dedicating himself to doing what society proposed, to be considered successful. He devoted himself to study and research.
And being one of the simplest people I know, he achieved his goal, but with a wide-ranging vision, since being a medical researcher, he worked on the manufacture of a vaccine, and his progress was so extensive in medical research, that he was awarded a scholarship to go to Germany, and there he entered the pharmaceutical industry.
And after a couple of years they patented their vaccine. And not satisfied with this, she then went to work in Africa, with Doctors Without Borders, in the care of children and people of limited resources, managing to set up a clinic and a foundation, which still gives help to people in need on that continent.
The last time I spoke to him, he told me that he was very happy and satisfied with what he was doing. And finally, he told me that he had fulfilled his dream in life, which was to dedicate himself to helping those most in need, in order to make a better world. That was about 20 years ago.
And talking to him, I realized that many of the personal achievements and the criteria of life that I had, of success in life, that were based on having, were really stupid, if I compared them with the wide-ranging ambition, to which Rodrigo had dedicated his life, and that, along with other things, made me examine my life and give it a change towards more human, inclusive and positive values.
