The Embrace Of Privatization.

In the year 2067 there exists a country, Rigena. A country that has no continent as it was founded by people who were tired of political manipulation and the governmental leaders lackadaisical attitude towards properly managing resources and caring for her citizens.

A group of people went far and wide to explore the ends of the earth in search of a greener pasture. Independence, they believe, is better than having one person to call all the shots, so, they founded the country without a president but a representative of every states in the country which will aid in the decision making. They believe in - "majority carries the vote."

Blessed with many natural resources, Rigena boasted of its gold, copper, diamond and other natural resources. It's a heaven on earth, says the core founders.

For decades, things were going well. The country multiplied rapidly in population and it's boarders began to widen. Civilization has landed. With the aid of the natural resources, they were independent of the other continents which didn't even know about the existence of Rigena.

In-country currencies were made, individual owned business were established and a new way of life, different from usual was established. The educational system was quite different as the county prioritize knowledge and early learning over anything.

For a long time, the representative of the 12 states, known as "the 12," made decisions for the country. Roads, water supply and other things were managed by the twelve and everything was going smoothly irrespective of some inside arguments and quarrelling.

The country have been growing well even though the construction of roads and water supply was managed by the 12.

The 12 decided to leave road construction and water supply to private organizations hoping that the quality will improve significantly.

Of course, the quality significantly improved. Road could last decades without having any potholes, and the water supply was steady without any breach. The quality of bridges could withstand a nuclear bomb without having any significant damage.

All these achievements came at a cost, as the workers were under paid and even at the low payment, they were not paid on time. They had to wait a few days after month end before they could receive their hard earned wages.

Not only that, the price of water skyrocketed like the price of fuel in Nigeria. Water used to be free, but now, people had to pay 200 Rigs (the country's currency) just to get a litre of water.

The roads were paid for on a monthly basis. The brought up a fee, road fee of 50 Rigs to be automatically subtracted from each person's salary at be end of every month. Everybody pay this fee so long as they have started working. It doesn't matter what their source of income is, or how small it is.

Inarguably, private companies will come with quality things, the cost will be too much for an average man to handle.

Thank you for reading.

It was really miserable living there, my salary was cut to pay for roads and water, 200 Rig for water and 50 Rig for roads

I love this illustrative story.
It said it all. The cost of private ownership of these simple is going to be choking.

One thing is always certain with the private organizations, "quality" but Omo,to afford it is going to be a problem. I will always prefer the government being in charge so that everyone, regardless of class can have access to good life

Its inarguable. Private companies prioritize quality but then, the price of the quality is something else.
Though government products are not as quality as that of private companies, its easily affordable

Actually government funds can be affordable for a normal range person and he can manage easily

I'm struck between Rigena's experience with privatization and our own world's struggles with inequality and access to basic necessities. I love how you brought out the points from this well created story. It is more of a check, a caution about the dangers of unchecked capitalism and the importance of prioritizing the well-being of all citizens and not just the rich and well privileged.

Thanks for sharing.
