Splinterlands: Little League without Magic!

little league no magic.jpg

Hello everyone, it's a Saturday today and the second Splinterlands Challenge launched yesterday, so it's time to make my post to take part in it for this week!

Lately I've been making a lot of improvements to my small warriors so I would do better in the Little League ruleset, in the current meta there are some need to have specialists but whether we can use them or not all depends on the available splinters in our current battle, last week I already made another post talking about a little league strategy with some key cards, but this time it's a special without magic allowed but first let's talk about this weeks Community Engagement Challenge.

Theme: Ruleset Revelations

One of the most exciting parts of every Splinterlands battle is the ruleset twist. Suddenly, your usual strategy might not work, and you need to adapt fast. This week’s challenge focuses on mastering those rulesets that can make or break a match!

🔥 Here’s what to do:

Pick one ruleset (or a combo of two) that you either love or struggle with.

Share your favorite strategy for handling it.

Show us a battle where your approach paid off — or where you learned a tough lesson!

Explain how newer players can prepare for that ruleset when it pops up!

To find out how you can participate in this challenge yourself, you can check out the official Splinterlands post here.

Ruleset Revelations, the combination in rule sets.

What makes playing Splinterlands so cool is the combinations for rule sets which sometimes really can make you think hard, every game is a puzzle really and it's a different puzzle for every player because it all depends on the cards you have.

I think this kind of brain training keeps our minds active and I'm sure playing Splinterlands is good for our brains to prevent things like Dementia.

In the battle I'm going to show you later in this post I'm going to give you the exact breakdown for the battle, but when you see this rule set combination, some abilities are really important.. so let's talk about that first because this is obvious for veteran players but not so obvious for new players maybe.

Little League

This one is easy, only units with 4 mana or less are available to be chosen from, neutral units like Halfling Refugee and Ferrous Brewer are important to have because they can be played almost every battle unless we get the rule set that blocks the use of neutral cards.

Heavy Hitters

In the current Modern play, this ruleset is not important at all because there are not a lot of units with stun out there so to be honest I just ignore this one, in Wild League, this is a different thing but my bot plays there. 😄

Lost Magic

This is an important one, in many Little League teams you will see the Shock Trooper in the back of the teams, it wipes out our small tanks really fast.

image.png

Surely it has a drawback, it does 1 damage to every friendly unit each round as well, but in fast battles that only last a couple of rounds, it's more important to break the front line quickly and kill the tank with the weaker units behind it.

Without magic, there is one very important ability we should not forget, you know what it is? It's pretty obvious... it's the Shield ability, halving all incoming melee and ranged damage.

image.png

When I look at my own deck, there are only three units with the Shield ability that are able to be played in Little League, only the Water and Life splinters have them, but the life Gallicus is hard to get because it's a reward card and you need to earn three of them to get the Shield ability, so it's the Water splinter that remains.

Sharing the battle

In the battle I just played half an hour ago there was 28 mana available and only the Water, Death and Dragon splinters are open to be chosen from. I don't have a Dragon Archon with 4 or less mana but I do have the Dual Element Rebellion Archons so I was able to combine both the Water and Death splinters, pretty damn nice! I could see in the previously played teams from my opponent this player has max level cards so I would go in to this fight with a big level disadvantage... so it's important to choose the best team I can.

First look at the battlefield:

image.png

Ooh this is not as bad as I anticipated, the Archon is max level but only the tank and the Mar Toren Trader are high level, the rest is Bronze level, I think I'm okay!

My Line-Up:

  • Archon: Zeddica - reason: I'm able to combine both the Death and Water splinters.
  • First position: Chaos Rear Guard - reason: Shield!
  • Second position: Taye Loreswift - reason: +1 melee damage to my entire team.
  • Third position: Filthy Scavenger - reason: Opportunity with good damage.
  • Fourth position: Fenmoor Haunt - reason: Sneak with nice speed.
  • Fifth position: Night Stalker - reason: Sneak with good damage.
  • Sixth position: Broken Earth Thug - reason: More opportunity, the armor helps protect my rear.

So as you can see, my opponent has two units that can't do anything at the start of the battle, the Chaos Rear Guard can only fight in the first position and Yaba's Pickle, I don't know why my opponent choose that card since the dodge with the low speed is kinda useless.
Because of my tank with the Shield ability, all enemy units with 1 damage do 0 damage, let's see how this plays out!

The Battle:

image.png

Round 1: The difference in damage output between my team and the enemy team is pretty big and the first kill has already been made.

image.png

Round 2: Wow that's going even faster than I thought, almost no damage whatsoever to my team and the heal from the Trader isn't a problem at all, I'm doing way too much damage.

image.png

Round 3: And now, only the Pickle without attack is left.. FINISH HIM!

Round 4: Fenmoor Hunt made the final blow, winning the battle.

4.5 SPS is pretty nice!

So, as you can see me efforts in improving my Little League team have definitely paid off, mostly paid with the earnings from my blogs, I'll just keep playing, blogging and building!
