Splinterlands: Chaos Legion vs. Rebellion

chaos.jpg

Welcome back to my blog all Splinterlands fans and friends, it was a good splinterlands week again with nice earnings and good brawl positions and I can finally say our secondary guild, NFG Club - Legion 2 is back alive again 🤗 with the arrival of two new members it's active enough to start brawling again and earn some of these nice rewards in Tier 1. I can't say we're quite there yet because we still could use some active members, especially for Silver and Gold but that's going to be a hard to fill position in a low level guild I suppose, with so many other guilds looking for players as well.

This week, the Social Media Challenge is the same as always:

🔥 Share Your Most Remarkable Splinterlands Moments: Do you possess a battle of epic proportions that deserves to be seen by all? Have you crafted something extraordinary within the Splinterlands realm? Maybe you've got profound thoughts, insights, or strategies related to stats, cards, abilities, or gameplay that are waiting to be shared? We want it all, and we want it to be nothing short of AMAZING!

And to find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the Splinterlands post here.
It's a great way to earn something extra while sharing your own splinterlands story, to start might not be easy, but so wasn't learning to ride a bicycle or a car, or to write!

In today's post I will talk about the difference in these two sets because WOW they're different, and with the launch of Conclave Arcana soon, pushing Chaos Legion out, things will change dramatically - also for me but that time is not here just yet, and later in this post I will share a battle where I beat one of the best max. level Rebellion summoners out there with one of the very powerful promo cards in the team I countered with some of Chaos Legion unique abilities!

In about two months, in April or May 2025 a new set is going in to pre-sale, called Conclave Arcana and it will be launched in the end of April as of now. With the arrival of a new set in Modern League, this means the oldest of the two sets currently in Modern is being rotated out and pushed to modern.

Meaning you can't play with Chaos Legion cards in the Modern League anymore as soon as Conclave Arcana goes live!

Set Value

When we compare the two sets, it's comparing apples with pears when you look at the prices, at the time of writing, a max Chaos Legion set is worth $878 vs. Rebellion with $7272.

Of course you don't NEED every card to be able to play, I don't own all expensive ones, unless you're a whale, you have to make choices, and even they have to make choices nowadays!

This difference of course is just a supply and demand issue, because Chaos Legion was launched in the bullrun of 2021, a lot of packs were sold, in the picture below you can see the difference which is more than a 10x, just under a million Rebellion packs opened vs. 10.6 million for Chaos Legion.

More expensive things are generally better, and I have to admit, the legendary Rebellion summoners are pretty dominant compared to the Chaos Legion legendary summoners but then again I don't see a lot of Rebellion summoners anyway in Diamond because of the price difference most players with me are still using their cheap CL deck.

Every set has it's own unique capabilities and abilities, the most special thing for Chaos I can come up with is the Forcefield ability, which is a perfect counter against the high power monsters, because anything with 5 or more damage will get reduced to only 1.

Rebellion's unique thing is the use of tactics summoners and dual splinter summoners, the tactics are a lot of fun to use and I am actually looking forward when I have to rely on my lower level Rebellion summoners and use them to their full capability than just use them every now and then on an alt account with low level cards.

The ability to use two splinters with the dual splinter summoners is especially handy when you have a combination of restricting rule sets, like even stevens AND might makes right or need for speed, this way you at least have all available cards eligible for this rule set from two splinters to fill your team with.

In my previous season I met this player with a strong deck of max level cards, combining Chaos Legion with Rebellion, in the previous battles I could see Lorkus was his favorite so I knew I had to prepare a team against magic, but Lorkus boosts both melee AND magic AND brings cool tactics, most battles against the Rebellion summoners I lose but I can at least try!

The battle I am talking about is a 51 mana Need for Speed / Maneuvers Modern League battle with the Fire and Life splinters locked out, to shield myself against magic my go to is definitely Immortalis and hopefully I can protect myself somewhat against big melee damage as well, although I can't use Mycellic Infantry because it's too slow for the need for speed ruleset...

First look at the battlefield:

image.png

Well I was right about Lorkus, most matches I will just make a nice team for the ruleset but this was definitely a counter play. Some really nice cards I wish I had! Max Venka, max Barashkukor... wow!

Venka will run in to my forcefield and Barashkukor's Fury will get halved by my void, but it's 5 to begin with so probably it's going to run in to forcefield as well, so my counter play is working pretty well, let's see how this goes!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Immortalis - reason: Protection against magic.
  • First position: Arkemis the Bear - reason: Great main tank with Forcefield.
  • Second position: Grund - reason: Heavy damage double strike just under the forcefield limit.
  • Third position: Mycelic Slipspawn - reason: Taunt with more Forcefield.
  • Fourth position: Thanalorian Blade - reason: Opportunity with Execute, nice synergy with Immortalis Shatter ability!
  • Fifth position: Lurking Puffer - reason: 2 mana filler with Silence.
  • Sixth position: Regal Peryton - reason: Fast back line defender.

The Battle:

Round 1: That's funny, do you see anything different between this and previous screenshot? I refreshed because the monster names weren't displaying and now suddenly my team is playing on the bottom half of the screen. 😁
Sometimes the first round is a little boring because you have to eat trough tanks armor and HP first but not this time, the other team already lost two monsters! The bears are going to fight and halve each other which is fine, actually because both of my forcefields this very dangerous looking team isn't dangerous at all anymore!

image.png

Round 2: Funny thing: Venka went straight for Arkemis and ignored the taunt... Then everyone but Barashkukor died so this will be easy.

image.png

Thanalorian Blade executed Barashkukor on her first strike and it's a win for me, this is quite a big reward for me with over 800 Glint and 8 SPS, I love it! 😍

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Conclusion

Never give up, even is your chance to win is slim, just give it your best and sometimes this game surprised you!

This is it for today's post guys, I hope to see you on my next post as well or maybe we will meet on the battlegrounds of Praetoria!

Nice win! Sometimes Chaos Legion comes up on top. Salty Bear promo card was critical here.

Splinterlands will have to admit that they made a mistake with how they printed the CL set, but I agree it was a bull market and they didn't think anything would happen. Unfortunately I hold 80 CL Set and I bought them when they were very expensive, and I'm -80% down on my cards.

Great game. I think you won this by having two cards with forcefield.

O I think the team is very open about the mistakes made, I too bought CL packs to hold them, at a certain point I just opened them, it was 200 packs
