Splinterlands: Battlefield Breakthroughs!

Battlefield Break 01.jpg

Hey everyone, today is a Saturday and since I already have my three daily rewards for the new reward system it feels like a waste to continue playing without earning fortune entries while tomorrow morning I can earn them again, so I started playing around with a novice level alt account in Modern and it's actually quite fun to battle in low Silver - can't push any higher because leveled up decks are kicking my ass now. I love it it's a totally different game which forces me to rethink my strategies and try to outsmart my opponents with a lot less capable deck than my Silver level modern account, let's see if I can push to the Bronze leaderboard for some extra glint, this account needs some of those sweet new reward cards as well!

What about you, did you have some spare glint to spend when the new reward set launched and how did you spend it?
I had over a million glint and bought the complete first batch for commons and rares, 15 epics and 50 major chests which got me a Legendary so that was pretty cool! Now I have about 650k glint left I will spend at the start of next season, I just don't want to pay extra for the second batch - I'll just have some patience. 🙂

In my last post about Commander Slade with Piercing and Bloodlust I wrote this weeks Community Engagement Challenge will most likely be about making a post about the new reward set and system but it's not!
Well, at least I talked a little bit about it - if you haven't checked out Splinterlands in the last year you really really should revisit and play some battles because so much has changed!

Sharing a battle and getting creative

The battle I want to share for this post is from quite a while ago, I saved it to make a post about but didn't had the time and not the right challenge until now... 🙂

This battle is a 36 mana Modern League, Explosive Weaponry / Blood and Sunder / Equalizer battle with only the Fire, Earth and Life splinters open to be chosen from. In the previous battles history I could see my opponent like to spam Lorkus, and for good reason because it's an awesome Archon, boosting both melee and magic attack AND giving tactics to their team, making it even more versatile. I regret not buying Lorkus myself when it was cheaper and when I was building my Rebellion deck, instead I made different choices, it is what it is! With the limited splinters available and not really high mana to spend, I had to be creative and it worked out a lot better than expected, a battlefield breakthrough!

First look at the battlefield:

Well I was right in anticipating Lorkus but I felt I couldn't really counter the magic, I usually use a lot of Silence and Corrupted Healing but I need the Death splinter for that... Instead I focused on containing the blast damage by using units with the Deflect ability and at the same time use my Archons Taunt tactic to maximize the blast damage to let it land in the middle of the team, where it hurts the most and the targets are softer than the tank in most cases.

My Line-Up:

  • Archon: Risqruel Drath - reason: Combine both Fire and Earth for more options and the Taunt tactic.
  • First position: Halfling Refugee - reason: Low mana with good damage and Self Heal.
  • Second position: Emberguard - reason: Deflect ability to stop the blast damage.
  • Third position: Venka the Vile - reason: High damage with Piercing and Charge.
  • Fourth position: Night Stalker - reason: Good damage low mana sneaker.
  • Fifth position: Buttercup Mauler - reason: Deflect ability to stop the blast damage.
  • Sixth position: Gobson Sniper - reason: Good damage with snipe, more damage in the middle of the enemy team!

The Battle:

Tactics Stage
My opponent gave Life Leech and Affliction to Chaos Evoker and Continuum Seeker, both are magic attacker, it's a good choice I think. I choose to put Taunt on Chaos Evoker, the drawback is I receive a redemption damage point when the Evoker is killed but I'm OK with that.

Ambush Round: Chaos Evoker had the Ambush ability so fired it's three magic damage before round 1, Ember Guard stopped the blast damage so that was all the damage, still my tank will get killed really fast I think.

Round 1: Yeah, my tank got killed already so now the blast damage isn't stopped anymore...

Round 2: Wow, carnage! Grimbardun Smith is a tough one to get through, good thing my units have Snipe and Sneak so they will kill the back line first.

Round 3: Hurry up, go kill them! Exciting battle!

Round 4: I'll be OK 😀

Round 5: It's a win!

That's quite a lot of glint and SPS for me, Gold 3 is my current league but a 2640 rating is Gold 1 I was in back then.

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

That's it for this week, thanks for stopping by!
