Darwin Nunez's Set To Leave Liverpool At The End Of The Season
There has been confirmed news that Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season by Fabrizio Romano. This news does not come as a shock to me because last summer, it was rumoured that Nunez was expected to leave Liverpool as interest from Saudi Arabia clubs and other clubs in Europe was concrete, but Liverpool was not ready to listen to any form of negotiations last summer. It's clear now that things have changed and the club is ready to let Nunez leave this summer window.
It is a neutral agreement as Nunez is open to leaving Liverpool as well so he will be experiencing his last moments at the club in the next couple of weeks. It didn't work out the way most people thought it would when Nunez joined Liverpool three years ago for a fee of 75 million euros from Benfica. Benfica has been cashing out from players over the past couple of years, and some of these players turn out to be a flop once they leave the club. This brings me back to players like Joao Felix, who is currently playing for AC Milan on loan from Chelsea.
Joao Felix has been up and down in different clubs but has no permanent stay at a club, and when I thought Chelseawouldld be his final destination when they bought him from Atletico Madrid, he still found it difficult to get game time, and from some rumours, Chelsea is planning on selling the Portuguese in the coming summer window. Darwin Nunez's departure was certain when Liverpool manager Arne Slot made a comment in a press conference about how he has been unsatisfied with Nunez's performance so far at the club.
Then I just knew Nunez was going to be sold this summer and I can't fault Arne Slot for making that comment because Nunez has not been at his best since he joined Liverpool. In his first season, he missed a lot of chances in front of goal, but the excuse then was that it was his first season in a new club, and soon he would adapt to the atmosphere and club style in a matter of weeks. Nunez's first season at Liverpool went by, and the same still followed in the next season, with Nunez having no improvement on his finishing in front of goal.
It's the best thing for the Uruguayan to leave the club and get new experience elsewhere because it is not working for him at Liverpool. It will be interesting to see Liverpool striker options in the summer window since Nunez will be leaving, and although I haven't heard any rumours about the club getting a new striker, I just hope this time they go for a better striker. It has been a long time since Liverpool got a decent striker which brings me back to the memory line. Those times when the club used to have Luis Suarez and Firmino as strikers in the squad.
Liverpool are currently playing a 0-0 draw against Leicester City this evening and today could stamp their names as the 2024/2025 EPL champions. I am looking forward to seeing how that may end, so this is where I drop my pen. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
