School Didn’t Teach Me This One Thing

source

Looking back at all the years I spent in school, I learnt a lot of things. From Maths to English, History, Science, and all that. But one thing I wish school really prepared me for is how to deal with real life emotions and mental stress

Nobody ever told me in school that life will hit you hard sometimes, not just physically but emotionally too. You can pass all your subjects, be the best in class, and still feel like you're not doing enough in life. I wish school taught me how to manage that feeling

After school, I started seeing things differently. Life is not straight like we were taught. Things don’t always go the way you plan. Sometimes you work hard, and the result still doesn’t show. You try your best and still get judged or misunderstood. And in all this, you’re expected to stay calm, stay strong, and keep moving. But how do you do that when no one taught you how?

In school, we were told to study hard, pass exams, and get a job. But no one talked about how to handle rejection, heartbreak, anxiety, or even depression. Nobody said anything about how lonely adult life can get or how confusing it feels when you’re trying to find your purpose and nothing seems to be working

I had to learn emotional intelligence the hard way. How to manage my anger, how to not take everything personal, how to stay focused when my mind is not even at peace. School never prepared me for that

Even in relationships whether it’s friendship or love, school didn’t say anything about setting boundaries or protecting your peace. It didn’t tell us that some people will use you, or that you will outgrow some people, and that’s okay. I had to figure that out on my own, through experiences that sometimes broke me

Sometimes I wonder, if I was taught these things earlier, maybe I wouldn’t have made some mistakes. Maybe I wouldn’t have wasted time on some wrong decisions or wrong people. Maybe I wouldn’t have felt so lost at some points in my life

I’m not saying school is useless school is important. It gave me a good foundation and helped me think better. But real life demands more than just academic knowledge. We also need emotional education. We need to know how to take care of our mind, how to stay strong even when everything around us is falling apart

I hope that in the future, schools will start adding these life lessons to what they teach. Because life outside the classroom is real, and it doesn’t give you past questions to study from. You learn as you go, and sometimes the lessons are painful

If I could go back, I would tell my younger self to also study life, not just books. Because life is the final exam
