ยฟMe aceptarรกn?

I, the neurologist who also wears masks~ A Neurologist's Log

As a neurologist, today I come to confess something that is not usually said in consultations: that I also pretend.

For years, my life has been a parade of well-fitted masks. Let me give you my example: I have been the flawless doctor who never doubts, the friend who always has a reassuring answer, or the woman who smiles when the world is falling apart. And each of those masks, although they seemed to protect me, were draining me.

From neurology, I know what was happening in my brain during those moments. It turns out that my prefrontal cortex was working hard to sustain the fiction, my amygdala was in constant alert, and my cortisol levels were through the roof. Of course, knowledge did not exempt me from wear and tear, and knowing is not enough when the fear of being seen was stronger than fatigue.

I remember one afternoon, after an exhausting day at the hospital, I came home, sat on the edge of the bed and cried without really knowing why. What I am sure of is that it was not physical tiredness; it was the exhaustion of having played five different people in a single day and not having been any of them. At that moment I understood that the problem was not the outside world, but my resistance to inhabiting myself just as I am.

Then comes that saying that the heaviest mask is not the one they put on you, but the one you put on yourself so that they do not see you as you are. And here comes the paradox that changed me: when I started letting go, little by little, my brain began to thank me.

The most advanced neurophysiological studies and neuroimaging do not lie: authenticity reduces brain energy expenditure, decreases amygdala activation and frees up resources for creativity and genuine connection.

I know that letting go is scary, because if I drop the mask, will I be enough? Will they accept me?

I found those answers in my patients. Those who have taught me the most are not those who come with clear diagnoses, but those who sit in front of me and tell me they are afraid. At that moment they do not need a flawless neurologist, but another person who has also been afraid.

Today, when I feel like putting on a mask again, I stop and breathe. I do not always get it right, because I am still human and I still have fears, but now I know that every time I choose to show myself as I am, my brain rests, my heart lightens, and my life becomes lighter.

So here I am, without a script, without a disguise, with my few lights and my many shadows, with my certainties and my countless doubts. And nothing, friends of Holos-Lotus, I invite you, from wherever you are, to ask yourselves which mask you can let go of today, because you do not need to be perfect to be valuable. And believe me, your brain and your soul will thank you for it.

Until the next log!

At that moment, I realized the problem wasn't the outside world, but my own resistance to inhabiting myself just as I am.

I loved your honestyโ€”especially since Iโ€™m at that same stage; Iโ€™m tired of hiding behind a mask. I want to be myself and not have to pretend I agree with someone just to avoid hurting themโ€”only to end up hurting myself in the process. Iโ€™m fed up with pretending everything is fine when it really isn't.

I just want to be meโ€”flaws and allโ€”and shout: "This is who I am," anywhere, anytime. No more pretending.

Thank you for putting it so well.
