The best canvas in the world is not in a museum, it is in my garden [Eng/Esp]

A few days ago, while sharing in a HIVE community, I let out a reflection that has been spinning in my head ever since. I was talking about loving diversity, and I did not mean only plants, but diversity in its broadest sense: of thoughts, of colors, of ways of being, and of rhythms of life. As often happens, when an idea touches your soul, the universe makes sure to show it to you in every corner, and I, without looking for it, have ended up observing my plants with different eyes.

I have spent the last few days stopping in front of each pot, as if it were the first time I saw them, and then I realized something I always knew but had never put into words: nature is the best artist. Any painter should feel humble and, at the same time, inspired by what she does, because her brushes are not made of synthetic bristles and her pigments do not come from tubes; she simply creates with a perfection that hurts because it is so beautiful.

Today, while watering my plants, I stopped like a child in front of a shop window and noticed something that made me smile. Among all the ones I have, there is a pattern that repeats and is without a doubt my favorite: the green and white prints. That combination hypnotizes me, for example, the sansevieria, with its sharp tongues that look hand-painted with watercolor strokes; the pothos with its hearts splashed with creamy white, as if someone had splashed milk onto velvet; and those plants that my mother, with her usual tenderness, calls malanguitas, which have veins that look like maps of a secret world.

I can spend hours looking at the drawings on those leaves, and each one is unique; no two repeat the same stroke. The sansevieria on the left has a white stripe that breaks right in the middle, while the pothos on the shelf has a spot that looks like a cloud, and the malanguita in the back has veins that branch out with a precision that even the best mathematical calculation could not match.

As I observe them, I cannot help but wonder: how does nature do that? I, who am clumsy at drawing, who cannot even draw a straight line, feel awestruck, but it is not envy; it is pure admiration, like standing in front of a masterpiece and understanding that you do not need to own it, you only need to see it.

That was when the connection to that reflection on HIVE came to me, because loving diversity is exactly like sitting down to observe without judging and finding beauty in what is not the same, and understanding that the leaves do not compete with each other to be greener or whiter.

Maybe that is why I like those green and white prints so much, because the subtle can also be striking. And today, as I write this, I have my favorite pot beside me. Its leaves have a pattern that looks like a bird's feather falling into the water, and I think that if I were a painter, I would spend the rest of my life trying to capture that lightness.

If someone asks me why I spend so much time looking at my pots, I will answer that in those leaves lies the best museum in the world, and admission is free.

VERSIร“N EN ESPAร‘OL

cinti 800x20 - copia.jpg
