The Spider That Caught The Moth | A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Source
In a forest where the trees trembled in the wind and the flower petals shone under the sun, there lived a spider in a hollow tree, her web lying inside the trunk. She was like an artist at her craft, weaving webs like threads of silver all day and night. She fed on the small insects that came too close to her domain; however, despite her great skill, she felt lonely. She longed for some company, but it was not in her nature to be kind.
One night, while sleeping in her web, a moth entered the tree without making a sound. Curious, it approached and by mistake landed on the web, shaking the threads. The spider awoke, turned around, and saw she had a new prey. As she slowly approached, she said, “How unlucky you are” to which the moth replied without any fear, “Why don’t you just go back to sleep? I’ve flown in from far away, and your home seems very comfortable for a little nap. Could you please let me rest a bit?”
Intrigued by her prey’s nonchalant attitude, the spider decided not to act as she normally would. Instead, she offered that corner of her web for the moth to rest. It didn’t seem like a problem to her since she knew very well that this moth could not escape her web.
The next morning, to many’s surprise, instead of continuing the food chain, the two began to share stories about their lives. The moth told her about her journey through the western forests, while the spider spoke of her love for weaving. With each word, their friendship blossomed, and that day they became friends.
However, the spider's hunger made itself known in her stomach; that night she had nothing else to eat, and her moth friend asked if she could please be released from the web to continue her adventure in the forest, to which the spider firmly refused. She couldn’t free her prey due to the hunger she felt, and she didn’t want her new friend to leave her alone. So, the spider ventured out of the trunk to roam the branches of the tree in an attempt to clear her mind.
On the edge of a branch, the spider pondered what to do. A wise owl flying by saw her in this state and asked, “What troubles you?” to which she answered with the truth.
Upon hearing her dilemma about her bond, the owl decided to intervene. He said, “Your nature is to hunt, and your friendship with the moth goes against your instincts. If you do not act wisely, it could bring consequences.”
Affected by his words, the spider began to doubt. Should she continue being the hunter or become a friend?
After a long debate with herself, the spider returned home, where her friend lay trapped in her web. Ironically, the spider felt trapped between duty and desire. The moth, after much time, finally feared the worst. Finally, a decision was made. “I offer you my friendship and freedom” said the spider.
The moth, surprised, smiled with joy. The spider cut the threads that held her captive, allowing her to fly freely once more. The spider and the moth broke the expectations imposed by nature. They began to explore the forest together, revealing that sometimes, what one thinks they need can turn into something wonderful.
